NBC News app released for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick

The NBC News app in the Amazon appstore has just been updated with Fire TV and Fire TV Stick compatibility. It joins the likes of CBS News, Fox News, and BBC News as one of several news apps for Fire TV devices. Like most news apps, NBC News does not offer any way to view live streams. For that, the CBS News apps continues to reign supreme. Instead, you’re presented with a list of recently aired news segments to watch on-demand. The videos are separated into News, Nightly News, TODAY, Meet the Press, and Digital Originals sections. Within those sections, the videos are further separated into categories like US News, World News, Pop Culture, and Top News. The app is free and does not require any type of activation with a cable provider to view content.

Update 6/17 6:50am

According to Julian March, Senior VP of Digital at NBC, live streaming for the NBC app is “coming soon.”

    Thanks for sharing.

I sure do like these apps and clips, but am I the only one that would like to have the today show or nightly news in its entirety available for streaming?

This GenX’er is finally cutting the cable cord. NBC is my favorite channel. Been watching the Today show every day all my life. Even though my digital antenna only picks up local CBS, which means I now have to forgo live NBC (which is the ONLY reason it’s taken me this long)… I am moving forward with the cord cutting. It would be great if NBC would offer a completely live streaming option for all shows and news without cable. I only want to break up with cable, not my beloved NBC!

Does this include MSNBC? I can get what’s shown here on basic cable.
