NBC brings their live sports coverage to the Fire TV with new Sports Live Extra app

NBC has just released their new NBC Sports Live Extra app for all Fire TV devices, including the Fire TV Stick. The app offers access to live streaming sporting events, as well as highlight clips and on-demand replays of full games and events. The vast majority of live content, as well as a large portion of the on-demand replay and highlight videos, is only available by first activating the app with a traditional cable provider. Thankfully though, NBC accepts a huge list of participating providers to choose from. The app divides content into three sections: Live & Upcoming, Highlights, and Full Event Replay. At the bottom of the app’s home screen you can select a sports league to filter content and only display live events, highlights, and replays from a particular sport. With an NBC News app released earlier this year, and a new NBC content app expected soon, it looks like NBC is finally showing the Fire TV some love.

Excellent. I’ve been waiting for this app for a while, so I can watch formula 1!

Whaaaat? They show live F1 on this app? I assume it would be with NBC announcers?

      • Scott says:

Yes, they show live f1/IndyCar and they even post all of the practice, qualifying, and races in the full replays section if you can’t watch them live. Right now you can watch a full replay of the last f1 race in this app.

Don’t understand why OTA (over the air) channels require a cable subscription to access their apps. I don’t need cable to watch their channels.

    Thankfully!

When did you start drinking the kool-aid?

Kodi already has an add on that doesn’t require a cable subscription. Maybe these types of apps will let people rent only one cable box and save money.

kodi has an official nbc sports network addon but after a couple of updated you are required to log in with your cable info as well. I had this installed on my fire tv, i just uploaded th apk frm the playstore but had to use a mouse to navigate so i’m happy now with the official app. There’s an issue i have with the kodi one, it plays beautifully but stutters too frequent with me having to stop and play the stream too often whereas the app works far better.

When I installed this and tried it, I didn’t have to sign in and it appeared a Verizon Fios account was already linked to it. I don’t have such an account, unless it’s one I borrowed when trying another app. Could it be that this app is sharing universal TV provider info stored on the Fire TV itself?

Would be great if I could get this on my Fire TV in the UK…?

Is there any way to access the apk for this app? I have a nvidia shield which runs android tv and it’s not on the Google Play store.
