The MrMC app has just been updated to version 3.0.9 and with it comes a great new feature for those of you with multiple Amazon Fire TVs and Fire TV Sticks or those of you who frequently factory reset your device. The app now supports linking up with Trakt.tv to keep track of what you’ve watched in a centralized place. This lets you back up and/or restore your watched history when necessary, or set it to happen automatically whenever you scan your library for new content.
Trakt is a free service that keeps track of all the TV shows and movies you’ve watched. It also offers other features, like helping you find which streaming services offer a particular piece of content and notifying you when new episodes of a show debut. Once you’ve created an account, you can link it to MrMC by simply entering a PIN that MrMC provides at trakt.tv/activate.
Once you’ve linked MrMC with Trakt, you’ll be able to push the watched status of all of your content to Trakt, or pull down the status from Trakt to update how content is marked in MrMC. This handy to do just before factory resetting your Fire TV or Fire TV Stick if you don’t want to backup your entire MrMC library and user data. If you don’t mind re-adding your content and re-populating your library, but just want to save your watched status, using Trakt is the way to go.
If you have multiple devices running MrMC, you can use the automatic setting options to keep the watched status of your content synced across devices. There is an option to perform either a pull or a push of your watched status to/from Trakt whenever you perform a library scan in MrMC. Combining this option with MrMC’s ability to perform a library scan on startup or on a set interval will keep your watched status automatically synced across devices.
I just got a bit of clarification from MrMC’s developers about how this feature works. When enabled, Trakt is immediately notified/updated whenever you watch something. You don’t have to manually push your watched status to Trakt since it always gets updated as items are watched. So if you set all your devices to automatically pull from Trakt whenever you do a library scan, then all your devices should stay synced with the correct watched status.
