Kodi version 17.5 has been released

The XBMC Foundation has just released a new version of Kodi. They haven’t posted a blog article about the new update yet, so I’m not sure what significant changes are included, but the APK download file is already live. Since this latest update carries version number 17.5, and not v18.0 yet, it likely includes only bug fixes and no new features.

As always, the easiest way to install the new version on a Fire TV device, or update an existing installation to the new version, is to use my Downloader app, which can be installed from the official Amazon appstore. Once you’ve loaded the app, simply enter bit.ly/kodi175 into the URL field on the app’s home screen and the new version of Kodi will download and be installed. Alternatively, you can enter bit.ly/kodi64175 if you have a 2nd-gen Fire TV and prefer to use the 64-bit version of Kodi. See my guide if you need more detailed instructions on sideloading with the Downloader app.

Update

This version has issues that causes it to crash on some Fire TV devices. Kodi version 17.5.1 has been released with a fix for the crashes.

There’s an official app for installing Kodi on Android devices now – it’s called Kodi Android Installer

This must be very new as the website at first was still giving me 17.4 when I tried to download it but luckily your link had 17.5.

Also so far my Ubuntu PC is not offering the 17.5 yet, so some versions must still be processing or something.

Kodi 17.4 worked perfectly. Kodi 17.5 exits when build is loaded. Beware, something is wrong with this update.

Thanks for the warning. It’s working fine for me, but I’ll keep an eye out for others reporting issues and add a warning to the post if it seems like it’s more than just you.

If others have issues, please let me know by replying to this comment.

On a first-gen FireTV, 17.5 exits immediately for me, the only add-in I have installed is subtitle download from addic7ed. I uninstalled and downgraded back to 17.4. The md5sum using the bit.ly link is the same as the md5sum of a direct download.

I’m having the same problem. I’ve uninstalled Kodi and reinstalled Kodi. Loaded my build and it crashed again. I’m going back to 17.4

Yes when installed from google play on an android box you get an error when trying to open. You have to uninstall and reinstall and that seems to work
