Kodi, Downloader, and APK Sideloading work just fine on the new Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K

For those who want explicit confirmation, the new Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K has not made any changes regarding to installing 3rd-party apps. You can sideload APKs in the exact same way as with any other Fire TV model. My Downloader app works on the new Fire TV Stick 4K and the same developer options, which let you allow apps from unknown sources, are present on the device. Kodi, the most popular app to sideload, works as expected and the Kodi icon appears on the home screen in both the Recent and App rows. To install the latest stable version of Kodi, enter bit.ly/kodi176 into the URL field in my Downloader app, or enter bit.ly/kodi18beta4 for the latest v18 Beta 4 version of Kodi.

I wish MRMR would make a version that doesn’t have audio sync issues. I am sick of using Plex. I got an invite to beta test a new version of MRMC several weeks ago, but when I followed the email link, they wanted me to re-purchase the program. I guess maybe I will try Kodi.

3.7.1 in testing has that fixed.
You might bring up the “re-purchase” glitch in the MrMC forums so a dev can take a look.

I did. Not sure why they sent an invite if I were not going to be eligible. Either way, I was tempted to buy a second copy for Android TV, but since the program has been unusable on FTV for about two months now, I am looking at just going back to Kodi

I got the email invite today to beta test, but when I follow the link to Amazon.com, they want me to repurchase the app?

        Updated build underway.

I should have mention that in the OP, but only users having a record of providing feedback on the forum are accepted in the testflight, not brand new users, sorry.

That’s good to hear even though my use of Kodi went down to near nothing there are other apps that I sideload. I think Amazon realizes that this is one of the biggest selling points of their devices vs Roku and others and hopefully will keep it open.

  7. Y2Bogus says:

My hope is that someone figures out how to get the Google framework running on these. I have a bunch of play movies that don’t Port to movies anywhere but work great on my second gen stick

  8. Ben says:

Not able to install file linked on downloader for some reason.

  9. Ken says:

I have just bought a new firetv 4K. Downloader gives an error message when I try to download an app. Even though developer option are on. The link works perfect on my older 4K fire tv. Any ideas

  10. Bear says:

Has anyone confirmed if the new 4k stick is 32-bit or 64 bit? Im assuming its still 32-bit since Elias put the link for the 32-bit version of kodi, bit.ly/kodi176 vs the 64-bit version bit.ly/kodi64176.

  11. Skye says:

I can’t download the downloader app. I keep getting the message that I don’t have a billing address set up but I do. How do I fix this?
