How to Hide / Remove Channels from the Fire TV Channel Guide and Live tab — Works for Pluto TV, Philo, Sling TV, Hulu, YouTube TV, and more

Now that the list of services and apps integrated into the Fire TV’s Live Experience has grown even larger with the addition of Sling TV, Hulu, and YouTube TV, your Live Tab and Channel Guide might be getting cluttered with unwanted channels that you never watch. The good news is that it’s very easy to hide the channels you don’t watch, but the option is a bit buried. Here’s a guide on how to customize your channel list.

Hiding a channel will remove it from the Fire TV’s Channel Guide, will prevent it from showing up in the Fire TV’s Live tab, and will not allow it to appear in the “On Now” row on the Fire TV’s home screen. Hiding a channel will not remove it from within the app of the service that is providing the channel.

  1. Go to your Fire TV’s “Settings” screen.
  2. Navigate to the “Live TV” section.
  3. Select the “Manage Channels” option.
  4. Select the App/Service/Device that provides the channels that you want to hide.
  5. Highlight the channel that you want to hide and press the Play/Pause button on your remote.
  6. If you ever want to restore / unhide a channel, just repeat these steps. You can see a list of only the channels that are hidden by pressing Right on your remote two times to switch to the Hidden channel list.

Hiding is one thing. I have several apps that I don’t care to have and would love to be able to delete them and increase my internal storage. I use a partitioned flash drive to increase it now and also get a lot of external storage but some apps won’t go there. If I download a movie it goes to the fire stick internal storage and I am limited to the size I can download.
Thanks for all you do. It has been very helpful.

It’s not that easy. Try uninstalling some of the apps Amazon puts on there and you will see. Amazon Music(I use Sirius XM), IMDB, News, There are several.

I see what you mean and stand corrected sir. I have not investigated further as I do not have the same concern. Maybe Elias could suggest something.

How can the order of the listed channels be modified?

I haven’t ever set up anything using this; I’ve got Sling and Pluto showing up, but not every channel on those apps is showing up. For example I often leave it on Naturevision from Pluto when I’m working in my workshop, but that’s nowhere to be found in the Manage Channels listing

It seems like it’s nothing more than a glitzy gimmick that has no real value. If you can’t select your favorite to play (and I don’t know how to do that either), it’s pretty much useless

Elias, I have the Fire TV Recast, and I have the various sources like Philo, OTA channels, Pluto, etc., that appear in the channel guide. I also have a Hulu account and have it installed. I don’t see that the Recast recognizes the Hulu channels as you referred to below. Do you know how to get Hulu to appear in the channel guide?

    Elias,
    Question RE my FireStick 4K:
Does Alexa voice control work WITHIN the youtubetv app?

IF I am using the youtubetv app
Can I use Alexa voice control to change channels, etc?
IF I am using the Live Tab
Can I use Alexa voice control to change channels, etc?
