If you’re like me and have multiple Amazon Fire TVs and/or Fire TV Sticks, the default device names assigned by Amazon can start to get confusing. When purchasing a new app or managing your device from Amazon’s website, it’s nice to have a descriptive name to make it easy to determine which device you’re modifying. This guide will show you how to change those device names.
- View your device’s current name by navigating to Settings > System > About.
- Open Amazon’s “Manage Your Content and Devices” page by following this link.
(If the link doesn’t work, you can find the page by selecting the “Your Android Apps & Devices” link under the “Your Account” menu on Amazon’s Homepage. Then select “Your Devices” from the navigation menu on the left.)
- Select the device you want to rename.
- Click the small “Edit” link next to the device name.
- Enter the new name and click “Save”.

Is there any way of changing the host name of the Fire? eg, what it shows up as on the router?
14 months ago Ant asked (above) “Is there any way of changing the host name of the Fire? eg, what it shows up as on the router?”
From which I take it that, like me he’s changed the name of his device – but on the router it still displays the original name. In the case of my Fire the device is renamed just like in the instructions above. On my WiFi hub it is still appearing as a “Kindle+(string of letters and numbers)”. So the change of device name clearly doesn’t extend to how the device identifies itself on the WiFi network.
I have 6 amazon sticks none of which are showing up when I go into my account under manage my devices.. Help
Nice. Thanks man.
I gave my firestick to my son but it won’t let him use it because it’s assigned to Mt amazon account. How can I change this so he can use this device.
Thanks
Kim
Reset to factory defaults, go to device settings on the settings of the Fire tv stick and reset the device
Settings > My Account > Amazon Account > Deregister
That’s it. When he plugs it in next it will ask to be registered under an amazon account.
I changed my fire stick’s name on Amazon but like another poster mentioned it did not extend to my Wi-Fi. It is still showing up on Wi-Fi as “first name’s fire stick.” Help! How can I change it there?
If you go into your router/modem you have the ability to change the name there and that is the only way to do it
I was able to change the device name in the Airplay&Upnup app that we use for mirroring the ipad screen. Activate the app, scroll dow to devie name and click on it.
This is the one!!! Exactly what I was trying to do. Thanks!!
I have changed the names on my account but my echo dot says it can’t find the device. Help!

I changed the name to Kitchen tv but my echo dot wont recognize the new name. Still have to call it Fire TV
Did you try changing it within the Alexa app also?
I changed the name in the Amazon browser, but it is not reflected in MyFire TV. The device name still shows an older name. Do I need to do something else
