How to change the device name of your Amazon Fire TV or Fire TV Stick

device-name-header
If you’re like me and have multiple Amazon Fire TVs and/or Fire TV Sticks, the default device names assigned by Amazon can start to get confusing. When purchasing a new app or managing your device from Amazon’s website, it’s nice to have a descriptive name to make it easy to determine which device you’re modifying. This guide will show you how to change those device names.

  1. View your device’s current name by navigating to Settings > System > About.

  2. Open Amazon’s “Manage Your Content and Devices” page by following this link.
(If the link doesn’t work, you can find the page by selecting the “Your Android Apps & Devices” link under the “Your Account” menu on Amazon’s Homepage. Then select “Your Devices” from the navigation menu on the left.)

  3. Select the device you want to rename.
    devicename-2
  4. Click the small “Edit” link next to the device name.
    devicename-3
  5. Enter the new name and click “Save”.

Is there any way of changing the host name of the Fire? eg, what it shows up as on the router?

14 months ago Ant asked (above) “Is there any way of changing the host name of the Fire? eg, what it shows up as on the router?”

From which I take it that, like me he’s changed the name of his device – but on the router it still displays the original name. In the case of my Fire the device is renamed just like in the instructions above. On my WiFi hub it is still appearing as a “Kindle+(string of letters and numbers)”. So the change of device name clearly doesn’t extend to how the device identifies itself on the WiFi network.

Reset to factory defaults, go to device settings on the settings of the Fire tv stick and reset the device

    • J. Sean says:

Settings > My Account > Amazon Account > Deregister

That’s it. When he plugs it in next it will ask to be registered under an amazon account.

I changed my fire stick’s name on Amazon but like another poster mentioned it did not extend to my Wi-Fi. It is still showing up on Wi-Fi as “first name’s fire stick.” Help! How can I change it there?

If you go into your router/modem you have the ability to change the name there and that is the only way to do it
