Amazon has just announced that HBO Now is officially coming to the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick in the “coming weeks.” The latest generation of Fire tablets will have access to the new HBO Now app starting today.
HBO Now is HBO’s new stand-alone streaming service that gives you full access to HBO’s content without the need of a cable subscription. The service first launched back in April exclusively on Apple devices. HBO Now costs $14.99 per month, but the company has been hinting at the idea of offering discounted subscriptions for longer commitments.
FINALLY!!!
FWIW, the new HBO Now app can be sideloaded on the Fire TV and runs. However, the app refuses to stream any video, with the error report complaining that the device has been rooted.
Also, it still won’t run with Xposed 2.7 experimental1 and RootCloak 1.4
I sideloaded the app on a non-rooted Fire TV and it works, but I can’t get the pause button off the center of the screen. You can watch all the shows if you learn to ignore it. :)
FWIW, the latest version from the Google Play store (1.1.0.1533.126, the one that adds Chromecast support) has the same problem with the overlay. It will stream video on an unrooted FireTV, but the pause button never disappears :-(
