HBO Max returns as a Prime Video Channel for $14.99/month

Amazon has announced that HBO Max is once again available as a Prime Video Channel. HBO notably removed the ability to subscribe to the streaming service through 3rd-party marketplaces like Prime Video Channels, Apple TV Channels, and the Roku Channel. The entertainment company is now backpedaling on that decision, starting with a return to Prime Video Channels. You can now subscribe to HBO Max for $14.99 with a 7-day free trial as a Prime Video Channel and, once again, enjoy the benefits that come with subscribing through Amazon.

It doesn’t appear that 4K content from HBO Max will be supported via Prime Video Channels. If you are on the ad-supported tier that doesn’t offer 4K support, then it won’t matter. But, just as with Paramount+, if you want to enjoy 4K HDR/DV and ATMOS content you have to use the standalone app and the seamless UI experience in Prime Video or with the Fire TV UI is broken.

    • Thanks for the info. It’s still beneficial to have access to the 1080p and lower content in the seamless UI so you can then just switch to the app when you want to watch one of the few 4K movies on HBO Max.

Good news is that it appears that you can link your Prime Video Channel subscription to the standalone HBO Max app for the 4K content.
