GameFly is the game streaming service that came to the Fire TV ealrier this year. For a monthly subscription fee, you get access to a collection of console games that you play remotely through your Fire TV. For the month of November, if you purchase a game pack, Amazon will email you a promo code that can be redeemed for 1 month of GameFly’s mail delivery service. Streaming game packs start at $6.99 per month, while the mail delivery service, which allows you to have one physical console disc at a time, runs $15.99 per month. So for less than half the price of the mail delivery service, you get to try both the mail and streaming service for one month. To take advantage of this offer, just install the free GameFly app on your 1st or 2nd-gen Fire TV and purchase any game pack. Within a week, Amazon will email you your promo code to use to sign up for GameFly’s delivery service. Just be sure to purchase the streaming pack by November 30th to qualify.
Wonder what it means for those that already signed up. Not that it matters, I’m cancelling it is a disappointing experience to say the least – and I participated in the Playcast beta too. This is not worth the money for the terrible performance (even when wired with 150Mb/s up AND down fiber connection that gets higher than that in every speed test) and meh game selection. Obviously I knew about the latter but coupled with the glitchiness it is a dealbreaker. I’d stay away personally and this is coming from someone who LOVED it during beta.
Sometime speed test can be misleading.
I’ve got different result for each test.
Perform DIY test , use some of the free tools suggested by http://www.smallnetbuilder.com.
The speed test isn’t the issue… I have an IT background and an 150Mb/s connection up AND down that is definitely getting that. The problem is the Gamefly service, I know how to check my connectivity thanks :)
How long does it usually take?
