FOX Sports GO app drops Fire TV and Fire TV Stick compatibility

fox-sports-losses-compatibility
A few days ago, the FOX Sports GO app was updated and, in the process, lost compatibility with the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. The timing couldn’t be worse, as it falls directly inline with the Women’s World Cup, which Fox holds the official US broadcast rights to. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the FOX Sports Go app is exclusive to Fire TV devices, meaning the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick were the only streaming TV devices capable of watching the Women’s World Cup. Amazon still prominently lists FOX Sports GO in their comparision chart as one of 15 “Popular Services” on the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick product pages. Amazon support is aware of the issue and says they’re working with FOX to restore Fire TV compatibility, but hasn’t given a timeframe for when to expect the app’s return.

Earlier this month, Minecraft, the Fire TV’s most popular game suffered the same fate when an update temporarily removed its Fire TV compatibility. Fire TV devices seem to be second class citizens to smartphones and tablets when it comes to app updates. When developers choose to sooner update their universal apps on mobile devices, at the cost of Fire TV compatibility, the Fire TV community suffers. Amazon needs to better monitor their flagship Fire TV apps to prevent these frustrating hiccups, or otherwise provide developers a way to allow users to download older versions of their apps while they workout compatibility issues.

FOX Sports Go is not exclusive to the Fire TV. Anyone can use it if their provider is in the list of providers. Its also not just the Fire TV that had problems with the app after it was updated. A lot of devices can’t run the app after the latest udate, not just the Fire TV. Apps messing up after being updated is normal, but you are making it seem like its only happening on the Fire TV which is not true in the least. Apps messing up after being upated is the main reason I always advise everyone on moble devices to never auto update apps until they read the comments section to see if others have had probems with the latest update. Just like Minecraft, go read the comments on the Play Store and you will see that few days ago the app was not working on multiple devices, but you made it seem like the only device effected was the Fire TV. I have apps that crash or simply cannot be opened after updates, and its a very common thing, but it usualy gets fixed quickly. A lot of people that auto update apps that they don’t use very ofton probably don’t even realize that some of their apps have stopped working after updating if they don’t use the app frequently. Trust me, its extremely common for apps to mess up in some way after being updated and its not just happening with the Fire TV. I am not even sure why this would be a problem because we have the ability to install third party apps, nd the latest version of FOX Sports GO, which is 2.2.1 from the Play Store works fine on the Fire TV.

That being said, there is a real problem with compatible apps that the Fire TV is having that is going to keep getting worse and its because several apps are droppng support for Android 4.2.2.

I would be wonderful to be able to watch Fox Sports on internet without going through a major TV service provider like Directv.

Well, WatchESPN has been broken on Fire TV for months and still haven’t seen any sort of comment from Amazon or ESPN about it.

Amazon really needs to get their platform in order.
