Food Network, HGTV, and Travel Channel apps make brief appearance on the Fire TV

It looks like the Fire TV will soon be getting apps for the Food Network, HGTV, and the Travel Channel. All three new apps made a brief appearance in the Fire TV appstore, but have since been removed. Most likely, the apps were either accidentally made public ahead of schedule, or a problem was found that needs to be addressed. History seems to be repeating itself, because this isn’t the first time we saw three new network apps appear and disappear on the Fire TV. The History, Lifetime, and A&E apps did the same thing just over a year ago and took a month to return.

The Food Network, HGTV, and Travel Channel apps all offered both a live feed of each channel as well as on-demand access to shows. All three appeared to require activation through a traditional cable subscription in order to access content within the apps. There didn’t seem to be an option to subscribe to the channels individually.

Update

Even though the three new do not show up in search results on the Fire TV or Amazon’s website, you can find them and install them from the App Spotlight section on the Fire TV. Head to the Fire TV’s “App” section, scroll down until you get to the “Spotlight” list, then scroll to the right to find the three new apps.

Don’t get too excited. I have these on my Nexus Player & Shield TV, and they only have limited ‘free’ content… most it pay-per-episode or subscription based.

Scroll down to Apps and then scroll down to Spotlight – then scroll to the right – they are all there – I installed them and they work fine. You can pull them up via “Search”. Not sure why that is the case.

Why can’t amazon make this content available through the amazon interface like they are doing with showtime and starz?

These apps are exactly like the existing History and A&E Apps … except there is some bug that’s preventing them from showing up elsewhere. Use above directions to install them. I use Firestarter, so they automatically appeared in its UI after I installed them.

Cannot authenticate with Comcast/Xfinity or SlingTV. Minor suckage.
