Best Buy has just dropped the 75-inch Toshiba M550 Series 4K Fire TV Smart TV down to just $599.99. That is the new lowest price that this TV has ever been, beating out its previous all-time low price by $100. This is one of the best Fire TV Smart TV models on the market, thanks to a laundry list of features like full array local dimming, a 120 Hz screen, hands-free voice control, Dolby Vision, and more. If you’re looking for a killer deal on a massive Fire TV television, this is the one to snag. However, the 65-inch and 55-inch models are also on sale at great prices.
The Toshiba M550 Series Fire TVs were released last year as the first Fire TVs with full array local dimming, thanks to its 48 zone backlight. Since then the Hisense Fire TV and Amazon Omni QLED Fire TV have since also been released with the premium backlight technology, but this Toshiba TV remains the only Fire TV with a 120 Hz panel, since all other Fire TVs cap out at 60 Hz. However, be aware that the 120 Hz refresh rate is only possible on the Fire TV interface, so you’re not going to be doing 120 Hz gaming through an Xbox or PlayStation with this TV.
Toshiba M550 TVs are also the only TVs outside of Amazon’s own Omni Series to feature a microphone array for hands-free control, as you get with a Fire TV Cube. However, if you’re not keen on the idea of your TV listening to you, there is a mute switch on the bottom that physically cuts off power to the microphones. Of course, being Toshiba’s flagship Fire TV model, this TV supports the usual assortment of video capabilities like Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, HLG, as well as AV1 video decoding. Around the back are 4 HDMI ports with eARC, optical audio out, a 3.5 headphone jack, composite video in, Ethernet, and a USB port. Connectivity includes 802.11ac WiFi 5, Bluetooth, Apple Airplay, and Miracast.
Just about the only thing this TV doesn’t have that is found on a few Fire TV Smart TV models is a QLED panel, however, a reader that owns both this TV and the QLED Hisense recently commented that he prefers the picture on the Toshiba M550, so maybe QLED isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Regardless, the Hisense maxes out at 58-inches, so the Toshiba M550 at 75-inches is the one to get in my opinion.
If the 75-inch Toshiba M550 for $599.99 is too much TV for you, the 65-inch model is also on sale for $429.99, which is $70 lower than it has ever been in the past. Lastly, the 55-inch version is on sale for $349.99, which matches its lowest historical price. To sweeten the deal a bit more, Best Buy is including an Echo Show 5 for free with the purchase of any Toshiba M550 Fire TV, so don’t forget to add the Echo Show 5 to your cart before checking out.
Can you buy in the U K. If you can how mutch
No, this TV is only available in the US.
Is it really though?
Yes. This is the USA version. There IS a European version that runs android instead of fire.
Yeah, my reply was glibly referencing that the tv did not seem to be available to a lot of people. My Best Buy for instance said there wasn’t a single one within 250 miles.
75″ & 65″ are sold out around me in SW Ohio. Only the 55″ is available. I’m hoping it (the 55″) drops $50 to $299, then I’ll get that to replace the U6HF in the bedroom, and put the U6HF in the garage to replace a 32″ Sceptre I have in there now. Pretty sure the sets are being cleared since they are over a year old now. I’d bet the replacement line does 120Hz input AND be a QLED. Possibly, even more, smaller zones even, as the cherry on top.
Maybe Amazon will put it on a flash sale deal for BF
They seem to be on a roll with these flash deals on fire TV’s lately.
Presumably clearing out their warehouse for newer models ,these big ones are probably taking up a lot of space
Would be a shame if they were to get stuck with them.
Best Buy must of had only 2 in stock nationwide…kind of false advertising.
Elias? Can you use any contacts you have at Amazon and get a hold of the Fire TV development team and ask them to add the Roku Streambar Pro to the IR Soundbar Equipment commands? I’ve already sent feedback into oblivion and I’d prefer a more direct avenue of input. I’d prefer to use volume over ARC but Fire TV sets and the Roku Streambar negotiation is buggy at times and it doesn’t connect.
Seconded!
ARC is a fickle mistress…get used to it.
The newest Omni model is the one to get with it’s ambient intelligence.
I assume that the OTA channels will also be 60htz and not 120htz.
No one will ever read this but, I returned my Hisense 50U6HF for a Toshiba 55M550. The M550 just flat out has better picture quality than the U6HF…which wasn’t bad at all. But that ‘ULED’ or ‘QLED’ or whatever it is they call it, is, to me anyway, nothing more than a marketing gimmick. At least at this price point. As I said, the Hisense U6HF has a very nice picture (it is 4K after all) but the Toshiba 55M550 picture quality is just blatantly (again, to me) much nicer. The interesting thing is, the 55M550 is direct-lit, not local-dimming like the U6HF, and we think the 55M550 has a better picture.
