The original 4K Chromecast with Google TV was released in 2020 and is starting to show its age. Google released the 1080p Chromecast with Google TV late last year after months of leaks and rumors, but nothing has been found related to a new 4K model. That is, until now, since the first evidence of a new 3rd Chromecast model has been spotted.
The fine folks over at 9to5Google have found a 3rd Chromecast model referenced in the code of the Google Home app. The original 4K model from 2020 is listed in the app as a “YTV” device and the newer HD model is listed as a “YTB” device. The app now lists a new 3rd unreleased model as a “YTC” device that hasn’t been seen before. The app does explicitly designate the “YTC” device as a Chromecast, but nothing else about the unreleased device can be deciphered from the code. It’s probably safe to assume it’s a replacement for the existing 4K model, but that’s not a guarantee.
Both existing Chromecast models were released at the end of September, so it’s likely that this new “YTC” Chromecast will be released near the end of this year. The first leak of the Chromecast HD arrived in January of the year it was released, so, in that sense, this new Chromecast leak is right on schedule for a late 2023 release as well.
