A reader of the site, who wishes to remain anonymous, just sent me these pictures of the 2nd-generation Amazon Fire TV Stick 2. These are the first shots we have of the device and packaging in the wild. Those of you familiar with the 1st-gen Fire TV Stick will notice that the new hardware is notable larger than the previous generation. Judging by the “Empty Display Box” sticker on the front of the packaging, I’m guessing the Fire TV Stick 2 has arrived at retail stores already, which is likely where these pictures were taken. If you’re eager to get your hands on the Fire TV Stick 2 before its official October 20th release date, you may want to give your local Best Buy, Staples, Target, or other such retailer a try and ask them to check if they have any in the back.

I am more concern if the new Fire TV Stick has the new UI on launch.
You mean the Android TV UI that has been out since 2014.
Same UI at launch. For now. I suspect all that will change in the soon to be released software update. BTW, the fire stick 2 is being released with iOS version 5.2.2 a slight upgrade from the previous version. No noticeable changes yet seen.
OS not iOS
Can’t wait till thursday. See how this compares to my new Mi Box.
What are you going to compare?
(seriously geekishly interested)
No one should compare any stick to an box , two different platforms . I would like to know if the new Firestick still gets as hot as the first one.
Meet the new stick…….as hot and slow as the old stick. I guess we’ll find out.
Think everyone whats to know if you can still side load kodi.
If you can’t just get the Mi Box.
Lol u no
Can you??
Still no mention of the new stick here in the UK. Unless they are going for a silent release?
I noticed the standard Fire TV Stick is on sale at £33.20 (down from £34.99) and the Fire TV 4K Box is on sale at £75.00 (down from £79.00) as of 18/10/2016
Can someone explain why Amazon chose to package known-to-be-defective remotes w/FTV2 vs. fixing this issue?!!! Why aren’t more people concerned about this as the device readies for launch? Srsly.
Sorry — I meant to say Fire TV Stick 2 remote. I originally bought the FTV2 gaming edition, because controller works better than any cheap remote that breaks to only then have to use a lesser iPhone app sans Alexa. Ironically, controller is built insanely well and very sturdy/ergonomic.
What remote issue? I have three of them with no problems.
Read any number of reviews for remote itself on Amazon and you will see that they repeatedly break, and to replace makes owning unit(s) in question cost prohibitive as remotes cost roughly 1/3 cost stick + remote to replace.
I suspect the issue isn’t that widespread, or Amazon would have made changes.
What is the issue with the remotes? I’m using the new fire TV and kodi loaded on with no problems.
So the new fire stick 2 let’s you put kodi on it
I hope the stick is good and well worth it! I plan to pick one up during holiday shopping season.
I just need good wifi performance and low heat or no problems from heat from simple streaming. (Won’t be gaming much with it).
Been streaming for two hours now and the stick is as cool as the Fall breeze.
How much faster is it at loading apps/streams than the first-gen stick? Comparable at all to the FireTV or the Roku Stick?
Based on some apps I’ve run including Kodi, it’s nearly as fast as the Fire TV box.
FTV box 1 or the 4k box?
I can confirm that the fire stick 2 is very similar to the first generation fire stick in terms of sideloading apps. At present there are no differences, and it works perfectly.
Any update as to when is the new fire stick available in the uk?
I also would like to know when the new fire stick is due out in the UK, it will soon be February, but still nothing?? What’s going on?8
Any idea of UK release date yet?
