With the newly posted Fire OS 5 source code, Amazon may have given us the first indication that a 2nd generation Fire TV Stick is under development. I can’t stress enough how minute this hint is, but the file name for the current Fire TV Stick’s new software source package begins with FireTVStickGen1, which begs the question, why explicitly label the file as Gen1 if there isn’t a Gen2? For reference, the 2nd generation Fire TV’s new source file begins with FireTVGen2.

It’s reasonable to expect that Amazon will eventually release an updated Fire TV Stick. It is, after all, their fastest selling product of all time. But this may be the first sign that it’s currently being worked on.
