Fire TV’s new Navigation Menu is now official

Nearly two months ago, Amazon began rolling out a new navigation menu to Fire TV devices that replaced the text menu with icons and shuffled contents of the various tabs a bit. While a lot of people received the new menu initially, many people never saw the updated menu arrive. It seems as though Amazon has now pushed the new menu out to everyone and made the update official by sending out an email to various news sites, including myself, about the change. If you’re still seeing the old navigation menu, try checking for updates during the next few days.

Mine hadn’t updated until today. Kind of a sideways step in visual design but it feels a lot ‘snappier’ and quicker on my 4-Series. Which is of course always welcomed.

I’m unsure much of an improvement this is. I like that my watchlist is no longer buried, but I wish I could move it closer to the home icon. And I would not mind removing the live tv button, since I never watch anything live. Also, there is a large gap between the Watchlist icon and the start of the favorite apps. Seems like a waste of valuable space.

My Fire TV Cube still doesn’t have the update.

I would like to announce that it is OFFICIAL that I am ‘peeved’ they have removed the MY CHANNELS / YOUR CHANNELS row from the Fire TV UI home page in the last few weeks. There is still a CHANNELS tab inside of the Prime Video app and on the Mobile Prime Video app. Nothing on the Fire TV UI home page. It was a convenient row to quickly access Prime Video Channel subscriptions for more detailed content selections. But, I guess I shouldn’t be that surprised. The Fire TV UI has been listing all of the BOND FILM titles on a row labeled PRIME MOVIES IN 4K UHD for the last week when every single one of them is only 1080p SDR currently.

I hate this as well! The only way I can find them is going to the pinned Prime Video and scrolling to the bottom. Although some days its not even there.

I have multiple Amazon Channels and that row was the easiest way to see what is new on them.

For a company that apparently “knows” me, why it gives me an entire row of action movies it thinks I would like when I have never watched on on there, instead of a row I used on almost a daily basis, is laughable.

There is the CHANNELS menu item at the top when in the PRIME VIDEO app. But, it is not as inclusive as the YOUR CHANNELS row was for browsing content in the Fire TV UI. Makes me question why I should even subscribe through Prime Video Channels if they don’t consider it a priority in the Fire TV UI. Another ‘peeve point’ is why the SEARCH landing page in the Fire TV UI is so anemic compared to what you get when in the Prime Video app. The category list in the Prime Video app is more granular than the generic MOVIES, TV options in the Fire TV UI.

I blocked all the updates and don’t care about the new amazon launcher look. I hope I’ll be able to keep it that way

I just manually searched for updates and voila, here it is for my Fire TV Cube.

It’s a pity that they still do not list all the apps directly below the apps ‘tab’ on the far right. Why do I have to click the tab to get to my apps? They could simply list them there directly on the home screen…
