Not to be outdone by the Amazon Fire TV, the Fire TV Stick will also be receiving an update within the next few days. Amazon has just posted the source code for a new software update, version 54.1.0.2_user_102018720. The Fire TV’s update is likely bringing HBO search integration due to today’s release of the HBO Go app. However, that doesn’t explain why the Fire TV Stick is also receiving an update since the Fire TV Stick won’t be getting HBO Go until Spring 2015. Hopefully the new Fire TV update brings more than just HBO search integration and the Fire TV Stick is also being updated to keep it on par with the Fire TV.

I updated to this update a little earlier today

It appears that there may have been some improvements in OpenGL rendering, which was a problem with playing HD content on the AFTV Stick. And at least one other person has stated that they also have seen improvements in playback quality.

So, although these is preliminary results and I’d have to wait see if others are seeing the same improvements and it’s not just my lying eyes, this may be a necessary update for those using Kodi.
