Fire TV Stick 4K with New Remote makes surprise appearance on Amazon’s US site — Is this a leak?

If you head over to Amazon.com on a computer, you might see a banner (mirror) at the top advertising their Mothers Day sale for Amazon Devices with a small oddity. That oddity is the Fire TV Stick 4K being advertised with the new Alexa Voice Remote, which comes with app shortcut buttons, even though the Fire TV Stick 4K is not currently sold with the new remote in the US. Could this be a leak that the new remote will soon be bundled with the Fire TV Stick 4K, or, better yet, a new 2nd-gen Fire TV Stick 4K?

The new Alexa Voice Remote for Fire TVs was revealed a little over a month ago. In nearly all countries, the new remote is being bundled with the 1080p 3rd-gen Fire TV Stick. Concurrently, Amazon announced that the existing 1st-gen Fire TV Stick 4K was being released in Australia, Brazil, and Mexico for the first time. In those three regions, and only those three regions, the Fire TV Stick 4K was being bundled with the new remote as well. All other countries, including the US, are still selling the Fire TV Stick 4K bundled with the older remote.

This is why it is odd to see the Fire TV Stick 4K standing next to the new remote in an image on the Amazon US site. Clicking the image takes you to the regular listing of the Fire TV Stick 4K with the older remote, so Amazon hasn’t quietly swapped out the bundled remote. The image displayed is also definitely not just that of the 3rd-gen Fire TV Stick because that model is distinctly shorter than the Fire TV Stick 4K. Lastly, the image used is also not of the Australian, Brazilian, or Mexican Fire TV Stick 4K because you can clearly see the green Hulu app button, which is only available on the US remote.

So, is this a leak that the Fire TV Stick 4K, new or existing, will soon be bundled with the new remote in the US? No, I don’t think so. If you take the stock image of the 3rd-gen Fire TV Stick, which does come with the new remote, and stretch it up to match the dimensions of the taller Fire TV Stick 4K, as I’ve shown above, you can see that it perfectly matches the image used in the Mothers Day sale advertisement. I’m confident that this is just a case of an Amazon employee wanting to use a side-by-side photo of the Fire TV Stick 4K when creating the banner ad but, since no such stock photo of the Fire TV Stick 4K exists, they simply stretched the 3rd-gen Fire TV Stick photo hoping nobody would notice. Well, I noticed, and now so have you.

As I’ve stated in the past, I do think that it’s just a matter of time before Amazon’s entire Fire TV lineup is bundled with the new remote. It just makes sense since the new remote’s app buttons reportedly generate income for Amazon. Whether that happens with the existing streaming device models or with new models is anyone’s guess, but I don’t think the odd appearance of this advertised bundle that can’t actually be purchased is any indication that it’s happening any sooner. It’s likely just a simple mistake probably made by someone that doesn’t quite know the Fire TV lineup well enough.

I hope it is the FTV4K Stick (2nd Gen) release that will finally give us Netflix ATMOS support!! Amazon announced on their investor call last week that they are moving PRIME DAY up to happen before the end of the 2nd quarter. It would be a nice time to introduce the 2nd Gen version of the FTV4K Stick.

Well, that image has since been removed. But. Doing a search for the fire tv stick 4k yields the results of a stand alone remote with the new buttons for $29.99.

“fire tv stick 4k+ 2021” also comes up as you’re searching, so fingers crossed there is a new iteration of the 4K stick.

Some customers will be deceived into thinking the 4K stick is being upgraded and buy an new one.
