Software version 5.2.2.0 (build 555164120) has just popped on Amazon’s source code page under a newly added section for the new Fire TV Stick 2. This likely means the device will ship with this new software version. Since the version number starts with a 5, it’s pretty safe to assume there won’t be a move to Fire OS 6 with the new hardware, at least not initially. It’s unknown if 5.2.2.0 will contain the new Fire TV interface refresh, or if that will come with a launch day update on October 20th. Something like an entirely new interface usually merits a version jump greater than just 5.2.1.1, the current version, to 5.2.2.0, the expected launch version. My guess is that Amazon likely just used a slight variant of the current OS when manufacturing the new devices, and that they will probably download the new interface during the initial setup update check.
