Fire TV revamps how to add Live TV Sources to the Channel Guide

Amazon has updated how live TV channels get added to the built-in channel guide on Fire TV devices. When you’re in the channel guide, if you press the menu button you’ll find a new “Add Channels” option in the menu that appears in the lower right corner of the screen. Selecting the new option takes you to a new screen with a list of all available live channel sources, both those that are already installed on the device and ones that can be added.

At the top of the list are channels that are already available in your channel guide because they have already been previously added. Selecting any of these already added live TV sources will toggle all channels from that source on or off so that you can easily remove or add them all at once. At the top of this new screen is a button to manage channels, which takes you to the same screen that previously existed where you can hide or show individual channels.

Scrolling down past your already installed channels/apps you’ll find a list of all apps and services that support integration with the Fire TV’s channel guide. Each source on the list is listed as being either free or requiring a subscription.

The list of apps and services that integrate into the Fire TV’s Live tab and/or channel guide has been slowly growing over time and now totals just over 30 sources. Most recently, “>Fox, ESPN, and a few others were added late last year. Prior to that was the addition of Discovery+ live channels, live channels form Plex, and partial integration from Amazon’s own News app. Even if you don’t pay for a compatible internet TV provider, like Sling or Philo, there are hundreds of completly free channels that can be added to the channel guide of any Fire TV.

Please integrate HDHomeRun. I’d love to be able to use my Fire Stick 4K with it showing all my OTA channels I get on my antenna through my tuner adapter.

As of yesterday 2/11/22, my fire tv is no longer receiving my local stations. These are stations that that I access via antenna. They were still there in the morning, but gone in the evening. Three channel searches could not find any of them. The only live channels that are showing up at this point are from Pluto, TUBI, IMDB, and “News by Fire TV.” I am not planning on paying anything extra, or subscribing to other services to watch the same local news and other programs that I have been watching on this tv for the last two years. I am also not planning on buying any new devices to do the same thing, other than probably a new tv from a different manufacturer. Disappointed with Amazon, but not surprised.

I have an antenna that is near a window I go to fire tv and then the “live tv” option and scan for channels … I don’t have to use a recast app or device just the antenna, then I can integrate other available apps to the channel lineup… the only thing I wish I had was roku on that add to guide —- and more time so I can weed out the hundreds of random channels we never watch and have a better guide to scroll through. But my antenna works fine on my insignia fire and > live tv tuner settings … I have a fire cube though and I haven’t checked in awhile but I never saw live integration with that, so I just switch inputs to my antenna it’s no big deal

I try adding prime video channels on my live tv sources but it says available with subscription but I already subscribe. Can someone help please

They messed this up. Philo and Prime won’t integrate even if the app is loaded, active and there’s a subscription. Amazon seems to do little to no user testing.

The live guide is a mess. Go into manage applications and force stop, clear data and then try opening Philo and Prime independently and see of they show up in sync sources.

    Hello all,
Using Live tv program guide on Fire tv 4K Max. All works as expected when selecting channels from Fire TV Recast, or Pluto TV. But when a Sling TV channel is selected, instead of showing the channel in “Live TV” it exits and opens up the Sling TV app, and I cannot use any of the “Live TV” buttons. And I am in the Sling app without a easy way to get back to the Live TV app. Do I have something set up wrong? Is this how it is supposed to work?

Same problem. Can’t add prime channels or pluto channels. Very limited and useless feature. Not worth writing about.

How about Tablo??? I had a FTV Recast for 4 years and it finally died, RIP Recast….the integration was great..I’m hoping they add Tablo tuners eventually, it works better than the Recast.

Have recently seen PEACOCK show up as a LIVE TV source, but have not had success getting channels to sycnh and integrate into the LIVE TV GUIDE.

Have seen the same thing! Peacock it show that it is free but I can’t add the live channels to my firetv guide. I subscribe to the Peacock with adds.

  13. Vince says:

Since Fire TV Recast is being sunsetted, will Amazon add tv antenna tuner integration available on Fire TV edition TVs to the Fire sticks or Cube?
My Sony X85J has a great ATSC 3.0 Tune.

I have the FireTV 4K max stick, having problems adding some apps to the channel list. Freevee for instance, if I click it in the “add more” does nothing. I have added several others such as Sling Pluto Plex Tubi, all added with no issues.

Hi, I have recently purchased a 4g Firestick and I have set it up per the instructions and done all the updates yet when i go into the live TV / Channel guide and then select menu I do not have the add channels function – why not? after three phone calls the customer service desk i am no further forward.

Am in Ireland, same exact issue not getting the add channel or add apps option .. hopefully in time it’ll all work out!! Nice function, if it only worked!!

I can’t get any of the Roku app’s live channels to show up in the Fire TV live guide.

I’m wondering if it’s because they make a competing streaming stick that Amazon doesn’t fully support them (outside of allowing their app on the FireTV stick).
