Fire TV Interface Redesign may not arrive on existing devices until Early 2021

Amazon has announced an interface redesign for Fire TV devices coming later this year. The new Fire TV Stick 3 and Fire TV Stick Lite will be the first devices to get the redesign, but, according to Amazon’s developer blog, older Fire TV models might not get it until next year. Amazon’s blog post states that “the redesigned Fire TV experience will begin rolling out globally later this year, starting with the new Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick Lite. Additional devices will follow through early 2021.” The post also says that “exact features will vary by country,” which is no surprise since some regions don’t have access to all the capabilities, like Alexa. Amazon does say that the interface redesign “will be available in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States.” To see the new interface in action, check out this video, and to see all the screenshots released of the new interface, see this post.

I’m not holding too much hope that the redesign will be an improvement. I own and use a lot of Amazon products. Often, the interface design change results in slower navigation, disruptively loud audio, distracting video when it is not wanted (in preview), and unstable delivery of information as every screen relies on 100’s of requests to overburdened little services that never seem to keep up.

However, it is my small hope that the new interface will be super-quick, show more choice information, and not waste more than half the screen on stuff in which I have no interest.

As an example, it still takes 10-20 seconds to ‘check off’ an item in the Alexa app at the grocery store and useful features were taken away.

Their video was very short on details about the changes. The other links to AFTV are a great source of information.

If you don’t use Amazon prime as most people don’t change the launcher that’s what I’ve done tv launcher 3 is a good customizable launcher

Yeah so I buy a Fire TV Cube for $120 and I’d have to wait for the new interface!? Don’t joke Amazon.

Elias, assume this means Fire TV OS 7 on 4K Stick by early 2021? With easier ability to add adoptable storage?

Sorry but this UI looks terrible. I thought it couldnt get any worse but I stand corrected.

Do we know what devices this new UI will be on?

Two specific examples in my case:

    1. The Amazon Video App on Samsung 2017 and 2018 4KTV’s.

    2. The 2015 Fire TV 2nd Gen streaming device.

    Thanks.

This new interface is terrible The fire stick 4K might not get the horrible interface because it runs fire os 6 the fire tv stick ,the fire tv stick lite and fire tv cube run fire os 7
But amazon maintains features very well….
So Fire tv stick 4K might not get the update unless amazon upgrades the os version which did
Not happen since the fire os 3 to 5 update

  7. Gopro says:

Yes The update might not come to fire stick 4k

  8. Gopro says:

The only way to get this update on fire stick 4K is if the fire stick 4K is on Fire os 7 (Android 9)
The fire stick 4K only runs on fire os 6 (Android 7)

I am getting ready to dump Firestick maybe for Google TV chromecast or another shield. I am sick of feeling like a 2nd class user. Wait, Wait or buy a new device every year or so to get updates. Nivida still updates 2015, 2017 devices. Firestick sucks anyway I can’t run kodi any more cause it is so slow.
