Fire TV gains a new Preview Party feature to easily find free episodes across various streaming services

Amazon has added a new feature to Fire TV devices, called Preview Party, where you can find free episodes of popular TV shows across numerous streaming services. This collection of full-length free episodes consists of primarily the first episode of a series to give you a preview of the show. There’s no free-trial subscription necessary to watch these free episodes and you don’t even need to install an app to watch most of the content available.

Amazon has offered numerous first episodes of TV shows for free for several years, but there has just never been an easy way to find them. The new Preview Party screen, which is also available on Fire Tablets, collects all the free initial episodes into one easy-to-navigate place. To get to it, say “start Preview Party” into your Fire TV’s remote microphone or the Alexa feature of a Fire Tablet.

The streaming services that are offering free first episodes include AMC+, AllBlk, Apple TV, Lionsgate+, MGM+, Showtime, Shudder, Starz, and Sundance Now. Amazon also lists Hallmark, Paramount+, and Vix as participating services, but I didn’t find any content from those services included yet. Most of the participating services are available as Prime Video Channels which means the free episodes are available to stream immediately without needing to install an app. The few services with free episodes that aren’t available as Prime Video Channels will require that you install the service’s app to play the content. Apple TV+ is one such service that requires that you both install the Apple TV app and sign into an account before the free episodes will play. Thankfully, it’s the only one with that annoyance that I found.

While there is plenty of free content available through various ad-supported apps and services, the Preview Party content is unique in that it is both ad-free, as far as I can tell, and most of the TV shows listed are popular new shows. Of course, not being able to watch more than one episode without paying is less than ideal, but at least it gives you a way to see what popular TV shows are like before commiting to pay anything.

PRIME VIDEO has been making a row available for TV AND MOVIES TO SAMPLE THIS MONTH for quite some time now. For the most part they offer full SEASON 1 of shows that are participating PRIME VIDEO CHANNEL services. They normally make Season 1 of a show available the month before a new Season becomes available on the subscription service. It is a nice way for someone to sample a full season of a fairly new series and to sample what a service has to offer in quality content.

This doesn’t work with the version I have.
