The Jeep Grand Wagoneer was the first vehicle to feature Fire TV integration for its rear seat entertainment system. You can read all the details about how that system works here. Stellantis, the newly formed parent company of Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, and Ram, has now announced that the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica minivan will be the second vehicle to feature Fire TV integration. Individual Fire TV for Auto systems will power the two 10.1-inch fold out touchscreens.
Amazon first announced its plan to include Fire TV built into vehicles at the start of 2020, during CES. They said Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), now known as Stellantis, and BMW were the two car companies that they were working with. While BMW hasn’t announced any vehicles with Fire TV yet, Stellantis now has two models, the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer SUV, which has already been released, and now the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica minivan, which will reach dealerships later this year.
Stellantis has confirmed with me that the front screen of the new Pacifica will be able to view content playing on the rear Fire TV units. If the minivan is in park, front passengers will be able to select either one of the two Fire TV screens to be mirrored onto the front screen. This is the same way that the Jeep Grand Wagoneer handles front screen Fire TV viewing, so it seems as though this capability of mirroring the rear Fire TV screen to other screens in the vehicle might be a common feature of the Fire TV for Auto system. However, this might be unique to Stellantis’ implementation, so we’ll see if BMW’s future Fire TV equipped vehicle can do the same.
