Fire TV Edition televisions are on sale as Early Prime Day Deals — See how these prices compare to past deals

Amazon has kicked off the announcement of Prime Day 2021 with a few early deals on Fire TV Edition televisions that are already live. On sale is the Insignia 24″ 720p for $99.99, the Toshiba 32″ 720p for $129.99, the Insignia 43″ 4K for $219.99, and the Toshiba 50″ 4K w/ Dolby Vision for $309.99. Here’s what you need to know about these particular TVs, how good of a deal these prices are, and how these TVs compare to newer models coming later this year.

First and foremost, all four of these TVs on sale as early Prime Day deals are 2020 models that were released a year ago. Toshiba has already released two of their 2021 4K Fire TV Edition televisions, a 43-inch and 50-inch, and revealed that 55, 65, and 75-inch screen sizes are coming soon. Insignia has not revealed any 2021 models and Toshiba has not revealed any non-4K models for 2021, so we don’t know if the Insignia models or non-4K Toshiba model on sale right now as early Prime Day deals will be updated this year.

That said, the only differences between the 2020 Toshiba 50-inch TV on sale now and the 2021 Toshiba 50-inch TV are an increase in internal storage from 8GB to 16GB, an increase in HDMI ports from 3 to 4, an increase in USB ports from 1 to 2, and a redesigned housing that features smaller bezels. All other specs, including the hardware and performance, of the 2020 and 2021 models are identical, so it’s not like you’d be missing out on much by getting last year’s model.

As for how good these sale prices are, the Insignia 24-inch 720p TV for $99.99 is $20 higher than the lowest price it has ever been, which was $79.99 during Prime Day last year. The Toshiba 32-inch 720p TV for $129.99 is $10 higher than its past lowest price, which last occured during Black Friday last year. The Insignia 43-inch 4K TV for $219.99 dropped to its lowest price ever of $199.99 during Prime Day last year. Lastly, the Toshiba 50-inch 4K TV w/ Dolby Vision for $309.99 was available for significantly lower during Prime Day last year when it was breifly availabel for $259.99.

Overall, these prices a fairly mediocre since they are all not as low as they were during Prime Day last year, but I guess that is why they are early Prime Day deals. Amazon almost never drops the price of an early Prime Day deal further when actual Prime Day rolls around, so these prices are very likely as good as we’ll see for these particular TVs for Prime Day 2021.

An increase in internal storage from 8GB to 16GB, an increase in HDMI ports from 3 to 4 for the 2021 Toshiba 50-inch TV is a significant improvement in my opinion.

TV prices are up in general because of the chip shortage. So these deals are likely as good as it’s going to get in 2021.

    • That’s a really good point. I was thinking that maybe prices are higher because a lot of people are buying things like TVs due to spending more time at home because of the pandemic. While that might be contributing to the higher price, the chip shortage is probably a bigger factor.

Interesting ,,, I bought a 2020 model Toshiba 50″ Fire TV edition Television and it only has 4Gb (not 8Gb) of internal storage according to the “Device and Software” > “About” > “Storage” menu ?? I am not happy with that !
