Fire TV devices now support Prime Video Watch Parties

Prime Video launched its Watch Party feature a year ago to allow people to watch the same movie or TV show together simultaneously. Today, Amazon has extended the capability to the Prime Video app on Fire TVs, Fire TV Sticks, Fire TV Cubes, and Fire TV Smart TVs. Hosting a Watch Party and interacting with the features chat capability still requires a mobile or PC browser, but once things get going you can watch or join directly through a Fire TV.

To get started, just open the Prime Video app on any Fire TV device and pick what you want to watch. At the top of the content’s detail page should be a Watch Party button. Click the button to bring up the option to create or join a Watch Party.

Selecting to create a Watch Party will display a unique URL for your party that can be shared with friends and family to join the party. The link is also where everyone participating in the Watch Party can chat with each other. The unique URL will also provide a code that can be entered on a Fire TV to join a Watch Party.

The host of the Watch Party can play/pause the video and seek forward or back. Those video actions will be relayed to all devices participating in the Watch Party. Everyone watching along will need to have their own Prime Video account, since joining a Watch Party doesn’t grant you access to content unless you already are a Prime member.

Getting this setup seems like a good topic for your next Youtube video. :-)

Wait… Elias you’re posting regular YouTube Videos? I don’t see any links on the AFTVnews Website, unless I missed it?

    • Don’t worry, you’re not missing anything. clocks was just trying to goat me INTO putting out regular videos. Sorry to say but I’m not doing that right now. Maybe in the fall when the kids are out of the house more often.

What’s the reason for using the prime video app when I watch amazon content versus just browsing or searching from the main fire tv screen? Aside from having watch party access is there a difference?
