An official Vudu app is finally coming to the Amazon Fire TV appstore, according to Chris Welch from The Verge. Vudu, one of the largest digital video marketplaces with over 150,000 movies and TV shows, has never been officially available on Fire TV devices because it was owned by Walmart, one of Amazon’s largest retail rivals. Walmart sold Vudu to Fandango last year, which removed that barrier for a Fire TV app. Much of Vudu’s library has since been available on Fire TV devices through the FandangoNOW app for Fire TV, but now the entire library will soon be available. The Vudu app for Fire TV is expected to be available in the coming days.
Wow, guess it took Walmart stepping out for this to happen. Still it’s very cool. No more having to sideload this.
There a number of TV shows and non-MA movies I own on Vudu.
That also means that all content purchased from VUDU will be available. Some, but not all, could already be played by signing up for Movies Anywhere and including your VUDU and Amazon accounts.
OMG. You just made my decade! I think I may just throw a socially distanced, double-masked, virtual party to celebrate.
Nice, I suppose. All my VUDU movies are already linked to my Amazon account. No app, no sideloading, just pick the movie under the heading ‘Your Videos’, and watch. LOL I won’t be downloading the app.
Not all movies/studios are part of the Movies Anywhere program, which is what “links” them to your Amazon account. If you’ve purchased movies directly from Vudu or used the old UltraViolet system to unlock movies on Vudu, you may have movies that can only be viewed through the Vudu app.
Likewise tv shows don’t transfer over.
Good point! I hadn’t thought of it.
It shows up now: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08XWVS4NR/
I noticed there’s no free with ads movies available in the fire app. Is that because there’s no revenue sharing agreement between vudu and Amazon?
