The 3rd-generation Fire TV Stick (latest version) is currently on sale for $16.99 at Best Buy, Target, Home Depot, Lowes, Kohls, and Staples. This price matches Amazon’s Prime Day price from last month and is the lowest price it has ever been. This is a coordinated sale that happens every year a few weeks after Prime Day where retailers that also sell Fire TV devices get to match Amazon’s Prime Day price. Also on sale is the 2nd-generation Fire TV Cube (latest version) for $59.99 at Best Buy, Target, and Staples. That also matches the Prime Day price and is the lowest it has ever been.
Yippie – maybe the next iteration of the Cube is coming out :-)
Off the subject, but are there any remotes I can pair with the 2nd gen fireTV box? I mean Amazon remotes, ones with TV control.
Search around on here, I’m fairly sure he did an article on remotes.
No, none of the remotes with TV controls are compatible with the 2nd-gen Fire TV box. This remote is compatible, but Amazon has stopped selling it: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071D41YC3/?tag=aftvn-20
After some Best Buy rewards, the total cost for the stick is $2.12 for me. A no-brainer for the remote. I presume the stick is faster and better than the FTV3 pendant?
Performance is about equal between the new Stick and the FTV3 pendant. The new Stick is a little faster but the FTV3 has 2GB of RAM compared to 1GB on the new Stick, so going in and out of the same apps might be a bit faster on the FTV3. Of course, you give up 4K if you go from the FTV3 to the Stick.
How long is it going to be before everyone that wants one has one.
Well, people are born everyday so…
Anyone been having issues with their cubes while streaming local media off Plex? The past two months or so, getting a ton of times where the movie stops and says it cannot find the media.
The cube is probably on sale because you can’t disable hdr. Who wants to watch 1080 p in hdr. Only those who like a dull washed out picture
Or those who have really nice 1080p, 120 Hz sets that can handle it. Myself, for one.
These prices are insane. Amazon really wants to get these out there. I’ll say this, I had a Vizio 50 inch family room tv die the other day and I was able to get a 50 inch 4K insignia Fire TV for around 200 bucks.
I hate the Amazon interface, and pushy crowded interface, but damn, for the price, the support, and the quality of the hardware, I’d say I own no less than 10 fire streaming devices(many of which are actually attached to a TV), 3 tablets, and one Fire Branded TV.
I wonder if new devices are coming in a couple months, especially for the cube, and that is the reason for the fire sale.
fire sale !m@O
