Fire TV and Fire TV Stick connection issues today are due to Amazon server outages

Amazon is currently having major server outages which are resulting in some Fire TVs and Fire TV Sticks reporting that they cannot access the internet. Fire TV devices periodically check to see if they can access the internet by pinging Amazon’s servers. If they can’t reach Amazon’s servers, the Fire TV assumes it doesn’t have a properly configured internet connection.

If this is happening to your device, the best thing to do is just wait it out. Modifying your network settings or factory resetting your device will not help. If your home screen is blank, you should still be able to launch apps from the Settings > Application menu.

Update

Everything seems to be fixed and back up now.

I saw this same error when our internet went down during a storm. The bad part was that I wanted to watch a video on my local TV Server which does not require an outside Internet Connection. I ended up rebooting the Fire TV Box and it let me access my local resources. Others may benefit from trying this as well.

Very unusual for Amazon servers to be having problems as they are known for their robust server farms.

1000 Thank you Elias for this quick information.

As I noticed this problem was happening to me on all my 5 Amazon FireTV devices (2 Sticks and 3 Boxes), I figured it was a communication problem with Amazon.

I was going to ask here on FireTV-News, but then I saw this post explaining that it was a problem with Amazon’s servers.

Thanks again Elias for always continue to help unselfishly with the Fire TV!

Thanks Elias for keeping us informed. I had no idea why this happened to my rooted ftv2,ftvstick2, and rooted ftv1. I was afraid it had something to do with blocked update domains, but I’m relieved everything is OK now after an hour or so waiting.

I just tried to register 2 devices to my amazon account about 30 mins ago and they both received an error. I though amazon was blocking my ip. But thanks to your site.
