It has been just over a week since the Fire TV version 51.1.6.1_user_516010220 and Fire TV Stick version 54.1.2.1_user_121065320 software updates started rolling out to devices. Amazon’s official listing for these updates says they contain “minor bug fixes and performance improvements.” I’ve had a chance to dig through the source code and can confirm that there are no new features or visual changes brought on by these two updates. There’s no way to know what exactly was fixed or improved, but it appears the app which handles Amazon Instant Video playback has received a lot of attention with this update. The unreleased shopping feature has also been worked on quite a bit, which is expected since Amazon is probably close to announcing the new feature.
Does this release include the libstagefright patches?
You can check using the Stagefright Detector app from Zimperium:

Although this app isn’t available from Amazon, you can sideload the .apk from the Play store. Get it from Evozi if you need to:

I can confirm that 51.1.6.1_516010220 includes the patches for libstagefright. The Zimperium Stagefright Detector reported two vulnerabilities before I upgraded, and none after. I think this version is definitely worth installing.
