FilmStruck is a new streaming service from Turner Classic Movies and the Criterion Collection

FilmStruck, the new indie film subscription streaming service, that is a joint venture between Turner Classic Movies and the Criterion Collection, launched today with a new app for the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. The service is “designed for film lovers by film lovers” and offers over 1,000 “acclaimed films, hard-to-find gems, and cult favorites.” In addition to films, the app provides bonus content like interviews, deleted scenes, documentaries, and audio commentaries.

You can browse the app freely, but to watch anything, you have to sign up and subscribe. There is no free content whatsoever, apart from the 14-day free trial. Plans start at $6.99 per month, which does not include the Criterion content. To have access to both FilmStuck and Criterion films, you’ll have to pay either $10.99 per month or $99 per year. The app is available on all Fire TV and Fire TV Stick models running Fire OS 5.

amazon has the Certified Refurbished Amazon Fire TV (Previous Generation – 1st) $69

    • AFTVnews says:

Yeah, they’ve included it as one of the Black Friday Countdown items, but it has actually been that price for 2 weeks now. Not really a good buy since I expect the Fire TV 2 to be close to that price on Black Friday.

service sounds very promising. I currently have hulu with a limited selection of criterion films. would be interested in actual number of films available.

  3. kyle says:

…also on how many devices the app will run at a time. best

  4. Joe D says:

$11 a month for a lot less content than Netflix, no thanks.

  5. kyle says:

“FilmStruck supports 2nd generation and higher Amazon Fire TV pucks and sticks, operating version 5.0 and higher.”

I tried to install the app on my 1st gen fire tv and ftv stick. however the 1st gen box is not listed on the amazon app store install/push to device menu. box runs fire os 5 like the stick though. strange. why is the 1st gen ftv not supported?

    • kyle says:

… I contacted the filmstruck support chat. they confirmed that the 1st gen ftv is not supported at the moment. :(
still makes no sense: the stick is supported having less horsepower than the 1st gen box…
