ES File Explorer returns to the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick

ES File Explorer once again supports the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. The developer emailed me last night to let me know that dropping support for Fire TV devices was a mistake. When they pushed their updated version of the app, they forgot to check off the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick as compatible devices. A new version of ES File Explorer has just gone live in the Amazon appstore and it is available on Fire TV devices once again.

This latest version of ES File Explorer can be used to sideload apps onto the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. I will be updating my sideloading guide shortly to reflect changes in this new version of ES File Explorer. There is actually now a slightly better way to download APKs directly to Fire TV devices by using the Download Manager built into ES File Explorer. The APK you want to download no longer needs to be in a ZIP format. The Download Manager in ES File Explorer can download APK files directly, as long as you enter the full URL to the APK file.

ES File Explorer is a very popular app among Fire TV owners because it is the only app in the official Amazon Fire TV appstore that allows you to directly download and install APK files. All other sideloading methods require the use of a second device, be it a computer or smartphone. With ES File Explorer, it is possible to sideload apps that are not in the official appstore using nothing but the Fire TV remote.

Not true, TV Files Manager is far better. ES is shite, impossible to see where the cursor is highlighted.

Agree about ES. Horrid experience. Never needed it anyway. So many other options.

It’s not hard to see. It’s just horribly unintuitive where it goes when you press left or right ot up or down on the remote.

Which is why I use a mouse. If you can find a Logitech Unifying receiver and a K700, it’s a good pairing. Though, I prefer a real mouse to a touchpad.

I use it all the time to wirelessly transfer content to the fire tv and like it a lot especially since it’s free.

I have ES File Explorer PRO on my Asus ZenFone 2,ZE551ML.I paid for the pro version. When I transfer it to Fire Stick, using Apps2Fire app,it says it is unlicensed. What can I do to use pro version of ES File Explorer on Fire Stick? Thanks in advance,Mike.

      You cannot.

The ES Pro version does a verfication check to the Google Play store, which you don’t have on the Amazon Fire (by default), unless you have the Fire TV with the Google GAPPS flashed.
