EPIX releases Amazon Fire TV app that is completely unusable

EPIX, the premium television network, has just listed their app as compatible with the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. Yes, the app can now be installed on those devices, but in reality, the app is completely unusable and likely published as compatible with Fire TV devices by mistake. There are several issues with the app, but most notably, you cannot navigate around the app using the Fire TV remote. The app only works with a mouse attached to the Fire TV, which leads me to think it’s just their tablet app incorrectly (or prematurely) listed in the Fire TV appstore.

Assuming you have a mouse attached, it’s actually a nice app. You do need to activate the app with a cable or satellite service provider before watching any content, but, unfortunately, that’s to be expected. The app home screen lists featured, recently added, and most popular movies. Selecting a title brings up a synopsis, trailers, extras, still images, and a cast list. The app allows you to browse content by genre, alphabetically, or by selecting curated collections like Last Chance to Watch, Action Packed, Staff Picks, and Boy Meets Girl, just to name a few. The app has a search function, but it’s really only useful if you’re looking for a specific movie by name. Strangely, the app provides the option to add movies to a list that get downloaded for offline viewing, but that’s likely just there because it’s really a tablet app.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this EPIX app gets pulled from the Fire TV appstore in the next few days. If you don’t mind using a mouse with the app and want to install it on your Fire TV or Fire TV Stick, I suggest you do so sooner rather than later. Hopefully this app is an indicator that a real Fire TV app from EPIX is on its way.

I’ll bet they tested their app before the current Fire TV update rolled out. There were people experiencing the same thing with Netflix (I did, there were other Redditors that confirmed) which the Amazon reps I spoke to said was indeed a problem with the app on the new update but Netflix updated their app VERY quickly so it wasn’t a huge issue, nor one that lasted a long time.

Fire TV (box or stick) is no longer compatible.

If you have Amazon Prime, do you even need EPIX? Doesn’t Prime offer the EPIX catalogue? It seems like they share the same movies.

Fox Sports app is another one that is completely useless as it just crashes every time you select video to watch
