My Downloader app for the Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire TV Edition television has just passed 5 million users. There were 1 million new users that tried the app last month alone. The app has also just passed 7,000 reviews while maintaining a 4.5 out of 5 star rating and has held the #1 free app spot in the entire Amazon appstore for most of the last few months. Thank you to everyone who has supported the app through in-app donations and through Patreon. It’s only through your generosity that I have been able to keep the app 100% free without any ads, while continuing to pay my awesome developer Johannes Bramauer to add new features and improve the app.
Currently, Johannes and I are working on porting the app to Android TV devices like the NVIDIA Shield and the Mi Box. We had some scheduling issues early on that delayed things, but the app is now almost ready for the Google Play Store. Once that’s done, we’ll then immediately start working on the next version with some new features for all platforms.
Please make this compatible with the fire tablets (hd8 in particular).
Phone and tablet compatibility is definitely on the todo list. I want the next update to focus on a few new Fire TV features first and then hopefully I can tackle other devices.
Recently it seemed updates via Appstarted stopped working. So I started using Downloader. Great app!
I sideload it on all my android devices
Hey all,
Not a shill here and I don’t know Elias personally, but considering that this app has now surpassed 5 million downloads, consider throwing a dollar or two Elias’ way. To think that if every installation of this had cost only $1, we could have made someone a millionaire.
I for one appreciate good software, and Downloader is about as clean and straight forward of software as anything on the Amazon app store. I hate apps littered with ads and would hate to see monetization of the app go that route.
Thanks again for the app, Elias. It makes my life a whole lot easier when setting up any new fire TV device!
It is never a bad thing to release an app on every platform possible, and I do love your app for the FTV, but I just dont see myself ever installing it on the Shield. I am not saying that there wont be users of the app, but I would guess the vast majority of people who use it do it mainly for Kodi. Kodi and 99% of the apps I want are in the play store already.
If you want to devote more resources to the Shield, I would love more coverage on the Shield. Especially a rooting guide. I just bought my Shield 3 weeks ago, and I am in love with it except the remote. I know there are guides out there already for rooting the Shield, but the good one I found has a sates it erasing data in one line and says the data will be fine lower on. The guides you make are far better than the average, and you did say some time ago you were going to do more with the FTV alternatives.
So I want to use the Downloader to visit the showtime.ppv site and Pay for the live stream or UFC.tv will this work/be compatiable through my Fire Stick? Want to see the fight on August 26th…
Congratulations!!!
I look forward to Nvidia Shield/MiBox/Nexus Player version.
Maybe consider expanding it to be a full-fledged Browser for the TV
