Get this Alexa Voice Remote Deal
Amazon is still offering the Alexa Voice Remote on sale for $14.99 (£14.99 UK) (€14,99 DE). If you’re at all interested in upgrading to the new remote for its power and volume buttons, or if you anticipate needing a second/replacement remote in the future, you should get in on this deal before it’s too late. The only reason this remote is on sale is to make up for the fact that so many people purchased the Fire TV Stick with the old remote during the holidays. Once this sale ends, it is very likely that you’ll never see this remote on sale again.
The last time Amazon put a Fire TV voice remote on sale was in 2015, and that was to clear out stock of the original Bluetooth remote because a new WiFi-direct version was replacing it. Amazon simply does not put their remote’s on sale for the sake of selling more remotes. There is always a specific reason for the sale, so remote sales are very rare.
To emphasize how good this $14.99 deal is, even when Amazon was clearing out stock of the original voice remote that was being replaced, it only ever dropped to $19.99. The previous remote that the new Alexa Voice Remote replaces has only ever dropped to $24.99, before settling at $27.99. This $14.99 price is so low because it was dictated by the holiday price of the Fire TV Stick. Amazon wanted to give those who purchased the Stick on sale for $24.99 over the holidays with the old remote a way to upgrade to the new remote without paying more than the $39.99 price of the new Fire TV Stick bundle in total.
As a reminder, the new Alexa Voice Remote for $14.99 is only compatible with the Fire TV Stick 2, Fire TV 3 (pendant), Fire TV Cube, and Fire TV Stick 4K. It is partially compatible with the NVIDIA Shield TV as long as you have a compatible Fire TV device to program it and you don’t mind losing voice capabilities. There’s no word on how long this sale will last.

FWIW – I bought this on sale after reading about it here. It was for a bedroom 2nd gen fire stick that also had an 3rd gen echo dot in the same room. When I added this remote, Alexa added a new device called “TV” to its list of devices. The problem is that in my living room, we already had “TV” set up as a scene for the Harmony Hub, so I could tell Alexa to turn on and off the TV and it would control TV and AV Receiver both. So I had to delete the “TV” device and things were working exactly like I wanted in both rooms. Just thought I would post in case that helps anyone else.
Or you could have renamed it. I renamed ours to Living Room TV and Bedroom TV.
That’s true. I couldn’t find any functionality that I could operate on it by voice, so I didn’t see the point. I assume that works for you?
Following, because I have the same setup as Stephen and I would like to know the answer to this too. Also, renaming the newly added device to “Living Room TV” did not restore my Harmony Hub “TV” scene to turn on/off the TV

I’d decided to skip this but after reading about it again I started thinking that it just might be handy to need one less remote sometimes.
It sure is difficult to find out which version of the Fire Stick I own. If you’ve got an old one and a new one together, it’s easy to see the difference. Luckily, there’s a helpful thread at XDA-Developer’s that shows up with a Google search.
In case others need the info, 2nd gen Fire Sticks have an FCC ID ending in 0948 and 1st gen Sticks end in 0509.
We purchased one for the FireTV cube. While it technically works, it would have been really neat if it could use the IR blaster for the volume. It was kind of a major selling point of the cube, and bypassing it to use its own is a step backward. Hopefully the cube will have an update that can fix this
I spoke too soon. It’s right there in the advanced settings. Now it works exactly like I expect. Well worth the upgrade!

I bought 2, for me and wife for the family room TV. Works great. Then wanted to buy one for TV in basement, but Amazon wouldn’t let me. Said there was a per-person limit. Just FYI.
Best Buy had them on sale also, that’s how I got my third one.
Sale has ended though. But watch for another one.

Hi all. So the full TV on and volume up/down functionality works with the 2nd gen? That’s our bedroom TV and the only reason I need the TV remote is for those 2 functions.
Yes, it works with the 2nd-gen Fire TV Stick. It does not work with the 2nd-gen Fire TV Box.
Yeah, that’s really unfortunate. I don’t understand the logic of supporting the 2nd gen stick, but not the 2nd gen box.
Do you think this could come as a software update to the 2 Gen Fire TV BOX? Or is there something inherently different about its hardware that prevents it from working with this remote?
