Disclosures

This page lists in detail any and all financially beneficial relationships that AFTVnews has had, past and present, with companies that have appeared on this website. If a company or product is not listed on this page, then AFTVnews does not have and has never had any financially beneficial relationship with that company or product. A financially beneficial relationship with a company means that the company has provided AFTVnews with something that has monetary value, such as a free device to review and/or use.

Sponsored / Paid Content

There has never been a post or article on AFTVnews that was paid for by a company or individual. Companies have only ever provided AFTVnews with a product for free, but they have never had any editorial control of what was said about their product in any way. All such products are listed below.

Products
  • 1byone
In July 2016, a Bluetooth Keyboard was given to AFTVnews and a review was written. A TV Antenna was given to AFTVnews, but no articles were written about the antenna.
  • Amazon
Amazon occasionally offers to send me free hardware for review. Even though, in all cases, I have already paid to pre-orded the hardware myself, I have accepted their free hardware because it is the only way to have access to new devices before they are released to the public. In nearly all cases, once my paid pre-order arrives, I send the free hardware back to Amazon. Devices that I have received for free from Amazon and then sent back are as follows: Fire TV Cube 1, Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Recast w/ AmazonBasics Antenna, Fire TV Stick 3, and Fire TV Stick Lite. Additionaly, in Decemeber 2020, Amazon sent me a gift package containing a Fire TV Stick 3, Echo Dot 4 w/ Clock, and other items in celebration of the release of the new Fire TV interface. This package was not returned to Amazon.
  • Channels
Beta access to the Channels app was given to AFTVnews in February 2018 in order to make coverage of the app possible without needing to purchase the app. I have since purchased the app with my own funds.
  • Muse
After I wrote about Muse’s product, they contacted me and offered to give AFTVnews readers an exclusive discount on their product, which I published. They then sent me a free Muse in December 2017 to review, but a review was never published.
  • Plex
In February 2017, a lifetime Plex Pass was given to AFTVnews to make covering advanced Plex features possible.
  • Sideclick
The first Sideclick remote used by AFTVnews was purchased through kickstarter, however, Sideclick then reached out and sent AFTVnews a prototype remote in August 2015, which was reviewed and sent back. Sideclick then provided AFTVnews with 3 additional Sideclick remotes in March 2016 to use as prizes for a giveaway.
  • Tablo
In May 2015, a 2-Tuner Tablo DVR was given to AFTVnews to make covering Tablo easier.
Analyst for Amazon

Amazon has hired me as an analyst on multiple occasions, with the first instance being in early 2018, to assess new Amazon hardware and software prior to their release to the general public. I was paid a one-time fee for my services and I am unable to reveal details about the work, such as which products were involved, due to nondisclosure agreements. All hardware provided for the analysis was returned to Amazon after my assessment was complete. At no time did Amazon have any editorial control on AFTVnews articles other than limiting my ability to share knowledge of unreleased products via the nondisclosure agreements.

Employment with Amazon

Between May 6, 2019 and May 29, 2020, I was employed by Amazon Lab126 as a Product Manager for Fire TV. During that time, AFTVnews remained dormant and all of my apps were sold so as to not create a conflict of interest. Upon my voluntary resignation from Amazon, I purchased back my apps and resumed running AFTVnews. I am no longer an Amazon employee, but I am still bound by the nondisclosure agreement that I signed when I started my employment with Amazon to not comment on any non-public information I acquired during my employment.
