Confirmation the Amazon Fire TV is coming to India

There have been several signs that India will be the 5th country to official see a launch of the Amazon Fire TV and/or Fire TV Stick. Last year I discovered that Amazon’s India site had a placeholder for an upcoming Fire TV page, which was promptly removed once I wrote about it. Then last month I noted an influx of India apps for the Fire TV, which is a sure-fire sign the device’s release in the country was imminent. Thanks to a tip, I’ve now found what I believe to be confirmation that the Fire TV is launching in India.

The new software update for all Fire TV and Fire TV Stick models is currently still rolling out to devices. A new option in this update is the addition of an “English (India)” language setting. The only time Amazon has ever added new language support to the Fire TV is when that device launches in a new country. This is solid evidence the Fire TV and the Amazon appstore will be launching in India very soon.

If the new language setting wasn’t enough, the redirect of that I discovered last year is now back. It once again redirects to, which I’m confident is the product page for the Fire TV or Fire TV Stick on Amazon’s India website.

I know the Canadian market is much smaller than India’s but it has to be much easier for Amazon to launch in Canada. It hasn’t stopped me from using their products (Fire TV Second Gen, Fire TV Sticks(4), Echo Dots(2), but it would be nice to be a full member of the Amazon family. Sigh.

But surprised I am that the Amazon is one of the few electronic equipment that does not have a list of languages more complete as Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian.aleman, ect. I can not believe it but it happens to me in the mind that amazon is thinking in a racist way…
