I guess if there is any noticeable performance difference, or if the new OS has changes. I assume these do not have the upscaling feature of the latest cube.
I'll have a post with benchmark scores up tomorrow. Very minor OS changes so far but more on that soon. You're right, they don't have the Super Resolution upscale feature.

If you mean do they have the "Super Resolution" feature that is on the 3rd-gn Fire TV Cube, no, it's not on either of the new sticks. They just do normal upscaling like all other Fire TVs.

How does Fire TV Recast work on them? I know that the Echo Show couldn't work with the Recast and that felt like a glimpse to the future for the DVR.
The Fire TV Recast works the same on the new devices as it does on older Fire TV models. The only difference I've noticed is that when you're viewing the "More Info" screen of any TV show, it has an empty "Recorded" row at the bottom. This just seems like a bug, since that row should only exist if you actually have recordings of the show. Other than that everything works as expected.

1. Google Play Services on Fire tablets, because most apps rely and depend on those APIs. (So give up the advertising on the launcher already!) 2. AirPlay 2 on Fire TV Sets, Sticks, Cubes and Echos. 3. A Fire TV built-in soundbar with Alexa Home Theater 5.1 speaker support. You're welcome, Amazon! I just helped ya out BIG TIME!

what 3 apps do u have installed that takes so much storage?im sorry but thats just not true for most people i have 19 apps on firestick 4 k max gen 1 and it says i have 2.10 gb left .A few of the apps i have are sling mlb.tv rubi pluto peacock paramount+ and alot more.I suggest claering ur cache cause how u have only 3 apps and such little storage left and i have 19 apps with alittle over 2 gb left is puzzling.
Yes it is true. I bought a brand new Max last month and installed like 2 apps at the start. I had like 3GB of space left. After updates free space down to 800MB. There is Absolutely a longstanding unfixed bug with Fire OS and updates stealing and then not releasing disk space.Had the same issue on orig 4K stick. Just sat there watching GB after GB get stolen by OS updates. The only solution in Both of these case was full Wipe. That got me back to like 1.5GB Free But really I should have at least double that.
💬 2023 Amazon Fire TV Soundbar Review — A member of the Fire TV lineup only by name
Is this a sign of what's to come with new leadership at the top at Amazon?
I imagine that even a basic product like this takes at least 6 months to develop, and likely more, so I don't expect that the recent leadership changes influenced it much, but who knows.
💬 2023 Amazon Fire TV Soundbar Review — A member of the Fire TV lineup only by name
This is likely the result of a previous administration change, as these hardware programs take time. In the last two years Alexa leadership has taken over Fire TV and we are starting to see the fruits of those changes.
You mean 'fubar'.
💬 2023 Amazon Fire TV Soundbar Review — A member of the Fire TV lineup only by name
I guess I'm just kinda...floored and shocked by the complete lack of common-sense on display here! They already sell the satellite-speakers via the Echos and they even have Atmos on the Studios along with the Sub. They already have Alexa Home Theater technology with 2.1 setups...and they've already sold Fire TV built-in soundbars through partners. And so? Then entire infrastructure is essentially there. All they needed to do was release a soundbar with Fire TV built-in, Alexa far-field mics and Alexa Home Theater 5.1 to make it all cohesive. Ya know??? So I'm honestly just kinda...stumped! What in the heck have they been doing in Lab 126 or whatever??? No new 5th-gen speakers released this year either! Just a new Show 8 and Hub display...
I do think not building Fire TV capabilities into the soundbar was the right move because it's much more versatile this way. But not adding even a single Fire TV, Echo, or Alexa tie-in makes it so generic. The only way it could possibly stand out now compared to the hundreds of other soundbars on the market is by price, and it's certainly not doing that.
💬 New Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet announced with cheaper price, 25% more power, lighter weight, and better camera
The “walled garden” that is the Amazon App Store is an abject failure. Amazon needs to embrace that fact a move to supporting Play Store (no more side-loading) is in their best interest.
Exactly

Is this a sign of what's to come with new leadership at the top at Amazon?
Amazon frequently misses the mark on new products, this is nothing new. If they fix the quirks, and lower by price so that it goes on sale for less than $50, it might have a chance. Otherwise, it will just disappear quietly in 12-24 months like so many other Amazon products we've seen.

God, I hope not! I mean? Amazon is roughly budget leaning, yes...but they can still make good stuff when they want to! This was an epic fail and it isn't what we customers wanted at all! I was willing to pay $249 for a Fire TV built-in, Alexa Home Theater 5.1, Echo far-field microphone soundbar. I was chomping at the bit to place the order...but I guess not this year! Just SMH...just SMH.

Yeah, this one is a big miss. It's as if it was made because someone at Amazon said "How can we make more money from selling Fire TV accessories with the least effort" when they should have said "How can we make a great soundbar."

It is very expensive for just 2.1 sound bar. I could not see or might have missed it. Any thing about Dolby Atmos. You be better off buying a better quality sound bar that is at least 5.1.2. So you can hear Amazon movies and TV shows that have Dolby Atmos sound.
Sadly, it's not even 2.1. It's just 2.0. It does not support Dolby Atmos but you can play shows/movies that are labeled as Dolby Atmos when using it because all that content also has Dolby Digital tracks.

It's a complete farce and joke that Roku can ship an entire 5.1 capable sound bar system with the streaming hardware buit-in...and Amazon can't ship a Fire TV built-in sound bar with 5.1 Alexa Home Theater Echo satellite speaker support!

💬 Amazon Prime Video to gain ads next year — New ad-free option to cost $2.99 per month for Prime members
They introduced FREEVEE which already has Prime content but with ads. Now they decide to also bring ads to Prime Video. Yet another bone headed move my a company I once really liked.Ridiculous price hike last year which should have prevented this crap from happening, Alexa Guard gone and now subscription only under a new name, ruined Amazon Prime Music, raise the price for Grocery delivery, not allowing you to have full control of their tvs after you buy them, and now this move to add ads to Prime Video.I think after my subscription is over I'm not renewing again or buying their products.
And on top of that, they mix in the Freevee stuff with the Prime Video stuff in the Prime Video app, and rotate stuff from the latter to the former constantly thereby already causing us Prime subscribers to have to watch ads for that specific content rather than giving us the option, as subscribers, to see those ad-free.

Walmart + has become more of a go-to for me personally, as of late.
I had WM+ for a while, and towards the end I found more and more they were out of regular everyday items. Eggs, pizza, etc. at least of the brands I was used to purchasing there. Finally cut them loose.

I guess I wont be renewing Prime next year. Its gotten way more expensive than back when it was like $80. They screwed me over with the Music service, now they are gonna screw with the Video service, which was the only thing that seemed decent aside from the two day shipping. Since I find myself buying less stuff online, I dont see the point in having Prime anymore.
Ha! My 2-day shipping took 3 days this last time. You know, if they didn't offer free shipping, nowhere close to the current amount od 'stuff' would be bought.

Want to add this potential fee to use Alexa is because AI is costly. The old version of Alexa may remain free.
Costly, they send me emails wanting me to input answers for free for them to help improve Alexa. What do I get in return for doing their job? Higher Amazon Prime fees, higher Amazon Music fees, and shutting down their cloud camera. Would be nice if they'd throw in some free lube with all that they are giving me, but they charge extra for that too.
