Currently, there is no legal way to stream Super Bowl 50 on the Amazon Fire TV or Fire TV Stick, apart from using an OTA antenna box like the Tablo or HDHomeRun. According to Jared Newman from Tech Hive, that’s likely to change in time for the big game. Newman tells me he has confirmed with both Amazon and CBS that the two companies are working to make the CBS Sports app compatible with the Fire TV later this week. CBS will be streaming the Super Bowl live through their CBS Sports app.
The CBS All Access app is only compatible with Fire OS 5 devices, so there’s a good chance the CBS Sports app will have the same limitation. The Fire OS 5 software update is currently slowly rolling out to older devices, but there’s a chance some 1st-gen Fire TV and Fire TV Stick owners won’t receive the update by this Sunday’s game. If the CBS Sports app does require Fire OS 5, some older Fire TV owners may be out of luck. We’ll have to wait and see.
Any chance they will stream in 4K through this app?
