BMW showed off its massive “BMW Theater Screen” earlier this year at CES without revealing which vehicles would feature the 31-inch 8K screen powered by Amazon’s Fire TV for Auto system. Now the automaker has revealed that it’s upcoming i7 xDrive60, which is its first electric full-sized 7-series luxury sedan, will mark the debut of the giant rear-seat entertainment screen.
Measuring at 31.3-inches diagonally, the BMW Theater Screen, as the company calls it, will have a very wide 32:9 aspect ratio and a native screen resolution of 8,000 x 2,000. If that wasn’t crazy enough the entire display panel is a touchscreen and can electronically slide up and down from the ceiling of the car for the best viewing angle. To accompany what will easily be the best in-vehicle screen on the market is a standard 18-speaker 655-watt sound system or an optional “4D” system that consists of 36-speakers and 1,965-watts of power.
As for the BWM i7 itself, it’ll start at around $120,000 with 536 horsepower and 549 lb-ft of torque that will do zero to 60 in 4.5 seconds. The all-electric vehicle will have up to 300 miles of range. If you’re interested in owning the world’s most expensive Fire TV, preorders are now open and it’s expected to launch near the end of the year.
