Amazon’s News app on Fire TV gains Local News Channels for 12 US cities

Amazon has announced that their News app on Fire TVs, Fire TV Sticks, Fire TV Cubes, and Fire TV Edition televisions now has live and on-demand local news for free from 12 major US cities. The Fire TV’s News app already offers numerous national news sources, including CBS News, ABC News, Bloomberg, USA today, and others. Now it is adding local channels to the mix, such as CBSN Chicago, ABC7/WABC-TV New York, KIRO7 Seattle, and more.

The 12 major cities with local news options in the Fire TV’s News app are Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, and Tampa. Amazon says that they will be adding local news support for “nearly 90 cities next year.”

Amazon has been increasing the number of news sources available in their News app ever since it launched about a year ago. They say that it is now the #1 news app on Fire TV. The app offers both live streams of news coverage, as well as on-demand videos that can be browsed by category or by channel. Most, if not all, of the news streams and videos are available through other Fire TV apps, but the Fire TV’s News app provides a familiar and simple way to browse multiple news sources in one place.

The Fire TV’s News app is available by default on all Fire TV models. All of the content in the app is free and ad-supported. My devices don’t yet have access to the new local channels, so it seems like this update to the News app is still rolling out.

ABC “”Tampa” is not a live source, which this announcement led me to believe. Previously recorded clips. Want local channels? Use Locast if it’s in your area or put up a outdoor antenna if you can.

why not channels for Kirkwood, NY screw those concrete cesspool big cities. Always them. How many people can even watch tv there, if they have a tv? Hell they can’t even pay rent in nyc
