Amazon has introduced a new aluminum version of the Fire HD 10 tablet. The best part is it’s the same price as the older black or white plastic models. Everything else about the tablet is the same except now it’ll feel better in the hand with the new aluminum body. Inside you’ll find the same 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 5MP camera, 8 hour battery life, and 10.1″ HD screen. One other thing that has changed is that there is now a 64GB option which quadruples the regular 16GB internal storage. The extra storage will run you $60 more than the base price and is currently only available on the new aluminum model.
With app developers ignoring the Amazon App store, these tablets are becoming less and less desirable.
Amazon is in quite a pickle with regards to their tablets. I mean Fire TV app developers still have incentive to support Kindle Fire’s with the Amazon App Store. But other devs in general? Not so much and a big part of it comes down to the lack of Google Play Services API’s, which most apps these days need to function and FireOS simply doesn’t have access to. Google was smart (in a $$$ sense) when they made certain API’s (maps/messaging/chrome casting) a proprietary aspect of Android, which requires OEMs to put Google apps front and center on the devices sold. And since Amazon can’t afford to do that and make money, they’re never gonna get first-rate support because devs are always gonna support Google Android first, foremost and always before they support a hacked up version…
I installed the Google Play Store on my Fire HD 8 pretty easily. It took less than 10 minutes, and opened up the tablet to it’s true potential. I haven’t had any problems with the Play Store apps (the Fire tablets are Android, so they should work, regardless).
Meh. I wish they would get back to also making a Hdx line of high res and power tablets up to the 13″ size of the iPad Pro.
If the ram was atleast 2gb or more, its wprth buying, otherwise forget it. To me its just to slow with only 1gb ram.
my problem is screen. 1080p should be standard. if the screens were better I might grab them for reading or basic task.
