I’m not one to pay much attention to how profitable Amazon, as a whole, is doing or care about things like quarterly reports and earnings calls. I don’t think I’ve ever written about such things, but during yesterday’s earnings call, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said “our 2017 projections for Alexa were very optimistic, and we far exceeded them. We don’t see positive surprises of this magnitude very often — expect us to double down.” It’s obvious to anyone that Amazon is pushing hard to advance Alexa’s capabilities, but it seems like we’re only on the cusp of what the voice assistant will become.
Amazon’s last financial quarter, which included the Amazon Echo Dot and the Fire TV Stick as the #1 and #2 best-selling products on Amazon’s website, was apparently the most profitable quarter Amazon has ever had.
Amazon tends to be a company that invests most of their profits back into their products and services. With record profits, best-selling hardware, and a push to double down on Alexa, we’re likely going to see some interesting new devices from Amazon in the months and years to come. They certainly won’t all be successful, but it should, at least, be an interesting ride that I look forward to covering.
I hope this means that the cube shaped FireTV will be released sooner. Although they’re probably developing that as fast as they can already. And if they’re going to start working new Alexa devices, I’m hoping for a shower Echo. That’s where all the best thinking happens, and we need a way to get those ideas saved somewhere (like our To-Do list).
I do wonder about that. If they can rely on echo dots in every room they may think why bother with it. Personally I’d of course like to see it sooner rather than later but maybe they are rethinking it? It would have to be cheaper than fire tv 4 + echo dot obviously which would. be tough to do when they are on sale.
Hopefully, Echo Shower won’t have a cam ;)
maybe it should! LOL
The Fire TV 3 Gen is having issues with the newly released Fire OS 6, now Android N based instead of Android L.
I think the hardware may be ready, but the software is not. There are a lot of bugs to iron out and the Fire TV 3 Gen is working as a test bed for the Fire TV Cube with Alexa.
hey, you can now change the Alexa response word to “computer”, i”m a happy camper, lol.
really witsh they would hurry up and release a chromecast audio donlge clone for their ecosystem , yeah we know the dot has a 3.5mm our but CC has optical output and i feel like it is a waste of a dot to just use it as an audio receiver , they need to release an audio dongle or 2
maybe 2 price points one with only analog out an done with optical
something in the $15 to $20 price range would be ideal maybe even a $10 introductory / prime day / BF price
and do something about the horrible multiroom audio routing capabilites
what good is having voice controlled multiroom audio if you can not even direct the playback deives/s one the audio is initiated?
i find it to be completely useless , we should be able to tell it to switch playback from one device to another or play everywhere or to stop on any device from whatever device we are speaking to
