Amazon is reportedly working on their own custom chip designs to better handle artificial intelligence processing in Alexa devices, according to a report by The Information. Using customized chips designed specifically for Echo devices should allow them to achieve tasks more efficiently, resulting in quicker Alexa responses. The processors are said to be designed to handle more requests on the device itself, instead of having to send all requests to cloud servers, as Echo devices do now.

Yes. Until these things contain neural nets, AI is a misnomer. It’s not actually making its own decisions and it isn’t learning. It’s just phoning the mothership.
After adding a second Echo last week I’ve about decided Alexa is good for music and that’s about all she is good at. It definitely doesn’t go off script and doesn’t seem to learn from you. I’m wondering if Google Home is better at giving good answers.
Forgot to mention that even reading audible books can be frustratingly awkward with Alexa at times. Maybe my phone and a Bluetooth speaker would be better and give me more control.
I’m still getting good use of the “Ask Google” custom skill you have to make yourself because ALexa’s limited knowledge base whereas Google you can ask just about anything.
For example I asked “Alexa, what type of outlets are used in Ecuador?” and she couldn’t answer. But I asked “Alexa, ask Google what type of outlets are used in Ecuador?” and get the answer I wanted- 120 v / 60 hz same as the USA basically.
