Amazon releases an all-new 2nd-gen Echo Spot with a substantial discount for Prime members

Amazon has announced an all-new Echo Spot as a successor to the first version released in 2017. Unlike the old version’s full circular display, this new version splits the face of the device with a display on top and a speaker on the bottom.

The seemingly hemispherical display is a bit deceptive, as it’s actually a 240 x 320 pixel rectangular 2.8-inch screen that is surrounded by a black bezel. One notable difference between the new and old model is the lack of a camera. It also doesn’t have a 3.5mm audio out jack, so Bluetooth is the only way to connect it to external speakers. It contains a single 1.73-inch “full range” speaker and uses dual-band WiFi 5 (802.11ac) with Matter support.

The new Echo Spot is $79.99, which is $50 less than the old version. To celebrate Prime Day, Amazon is already discounting the new device by 44% for Prime members who can buy it for $44.99 through July 17. It’s available in Black, Glacier White, and Ocean Blue and it ships immediately.

    cool device.
will it connect to Amazon Eero mesh wifi network? and then act as node in that mesh network?

The Show 5 killed the Spot sales the first time around. The current version of the Spot at $69.99 is only $10 less than the Show 5. Not enough of a difference.

It looks like an Echo Pop with a display, so it should be priced about $10-$15 more than an Echo Pop. No more than $54.99 regular price with sale prices of no more than $34.99.
