Amazon has just added Audible Channels, a subscription service that normally costs $4.95 a month, as the latest benefit that Prime Members get for free. Audible Channels is an audio collection of original programs, comedies, lectures, news, and articles that is consistently refreshed. The new Prime benefit also includes a rotating selection of more than 50 premium audiobooks that you can listen to for free. The audiobooks are arranged in categories like movies, which currently includes The Silver Linings Playbook and Slumdog Millionaire, or self-improvement books, like No Excuses! and Stitches, and many more categories. There is way too much content included with this new Prime benefit to list here. Once you install the Audible app, from Google Play or the Apple Appstore, you’ll be able to login with your Prime account and browse the complete collection of free content.

Do you know if this works with the Echo?
The free content cannot be directly started by Alexa, meaning, you can’t just say “Alexa, play [FREE_PRIME_AUDIOBOOK_TITLE] from Audible” because the book will not be in your library. However, if you start listening to one of the free Prime audiobooks through the audible app, you can then say “Alexa, read my book” and Alexa will start playing the free Prime audiobook, since it’s the last book you listened to.
I couldn’t get any of the non-book content to play through Alexa.
Thank you for letting me know. I tried what you said and the echo recognized the title of the book but did not read that book actually picked out another book from my cloud. I contacted amazon and they said at this time it only works on android, ios and windows 10. To me this does not make sense since prime members usually have Fire devices.
Is this US only, just downloaded the app signed in but am getting prompts to sign up for a 30 free trial?
Yes, from what I’m hearing, it’s US only.

can’t speak for ios but the audible app is available in the google play store. the app is probably available in the amazon app store if its not baked into the fire os already
Cheryl, if you are asking how to get Amazon’s Audible program onto your Amazon Kindle Fire tablet… I have good news! Like all the other Amazon apps, it’s pre-installed on your Amazon tablet. :)

I have the app but couldn’t find the channels. According to tricia above its only for android apple and windows.
im currently a subscriber to audio through the sign up for free 3 months and receive a $10 amazon credit deal that was out a couple months ago. i guess i can just cancel my account now?
That is a good question. Do we automatically get grandfathered or do we have to cancel to avoid getting charged?
I’m thinking you have to cancel. 5 days after a purchase, for a $12 price difference, I was told to return an item and repurchase at lower price. Return shipping on Amazon. This was a large freight item too. So I’m thinking if they’d rather pay for return shipping and still give me the $12 but I have to cancel then you’d probably have to as well. Amazon is to the point where doing things smart don’t make sense to them.
These are two different services. Channels is a streaming service that has limited content. The original Audible lets you download books for a price and has a much wider selection. You would need to cancel that membership to avoid being charged (but don’t need to cancel it before using Channels).

This is great. I’m a big fan of Amazon Prime, but haven’t tried audible yet.
I downloaded Audible from the Google Play store for my phone, signed in with my Amazon credentials and was immediately greeted with an option to activate my Prime Benefits or to start a 30 day free trial. I chose the Prime Benefits. I wish there was a way to access via their website on my computer though.
Windows 10 app works the same way as the Google Play app. Not as convenient as via the web browser but better than nothing. You need to download it from the Windows store on Win 10.
Hi. I just listened to “Journey to the center of the earth” for FREE through this new Audible offer – I listened through Alexa. I recalled that there was another free book this month from Audible, “Alice’s adventures in wonderland” but I wasn’t sure. First, I asked Alexa to “read my free Audible book” but she said my Audible library was empty. Then, I asked Alexa to read that book (by title) and viola! Alexa began the intro and the book!
Going forward, how can I know what book titles are free on Audible each month?
It says that Prime benefits include “a rotating selection of more than 50 premium audiobooks that you can listen to for free.” I have been listening for a while now and really love it, but I’ve almost listened to all the Prime exclusive free books that interest me, and the list is exactly the same as when I first started listening, not a single new book. Does anyone know when they will be rotating the content?
All you have to do is get your Echo to connect to your audible device or computer via bluetooth and play the audiobook in channels that you want.
I am retired, 76 now and have an Alexa primarily to be read books at night. I can only get The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. I’m a Prime member, have no Kindle, have tried to figure out on my computer but very frustrated and disappointed.
Ok, I have my Dot up and running. Alexa is there. I’ve downloaded the audible app. Now what? I want her to read a book. Do I just tell her the title and she starts? I’m a Prime member so ALL books should be FREE, right? But it says, first book is free and there’s a dollar amount next to all the books like it will charge me if I click on to one?….
Hi – I just read your article about Audible deals, but it doesn’t answer a Q I have: would it be better for me to convert my monthly Audible account into an Amazon Prime account? I know I wouldn’t get the three titles per month as I do now, but with unlimited streaming access wouldn’t it amount to the same thing at a lower monthly cost? Thanks ~ Peter
