Amazon Music will be increasing the subscription price for Prime members and for single device subscribers next month, according to Amazon. The standard plan, which normally costs $9.99 per month, has been available at a discounted price of $7.99 per month or $79 per year for Prime members since it debuted in 2016. Starting May 5th, Prime members will start paying $8.99 per month or $89 per year. The price for non-Prime members will remain $9.99 per month and the family plan for Prime members will also remain $14.99 per month or $149.99 per year. At the same time, the single-device plan, which lets you stream from a single Echo or Fire TV, will increase from $3.99 per month to $4.99 per month. The price increase will apply to both new and existing subscribers on their first bill after May 5th.

Seems to be across regions – same increase in £ in the U.K., and I believe in Canada too.
And despite the increase, it’s still the cheapest of the major streaming services.
With the most bugs, issues, missing or removed songs, features that don’t work…
Sorry Amazon, but Spotify Premium is the superior service. Purchase the $99 annual premium card which works out to $8.25 per month. Obviously, Amazon raising the monthly cost isn’t good news. Hopefully this doesn’t turn into a rift between the two platforms as Amazon could block Spotify from Echo devices if they feel their share of subscribers is falling.
If you follow this stuff, this company is killing it. They were massive before the pandemic but then they started doing things like making 3 times more profits in one quarter than they had the entire year before.
They are raising prices simply because they can. Single device plan? That’s really nickel and diming its customers. There business plan was always simple from the start–eliminate competition with crazy low prices, particularly with the services, then raise them.
This is guaranteed to keep happening until people decide they aren’t gonna pay. And at this point, enough people will pay. Many might not even realize they’re paying more.

With my personal music collection on NAS, and a wonderful invention called “the radio”, why do I need to pay for a music streaming service?
You don’t “need” to, but if you want on demand access everywhere to almost 90m tracks in CD or better quality for a relative pittance, you might want to :)
Enjoy that better audio quality while you’re still young. As you get older, you’ll hear less of those crisp, higher frequency tones, not to mention the onset of tinnitus.
UK and EU family budgets are being hit by ever more crippling energy costs, so I don’t think music or video streaming services are going to be at the top of their list of priorities.
Just ask Netflix about their dwindling subscriber numbers.
This was a good reminder to prune my Amazon subscriptions. Gone Amazon Music, Comixology Unlimited and Prime as of August. Not using any of them enough to justify it anymore.
BTW, Amazon absolutely wrecked Comixology. I can’t believe how big the downgrade is.
