Similar to the streaming player trade in that many of you took advantage of to get a great deal on a Fire TV Cube, Amazon is now offering 25% off a new Echo device when you trade in a speaker or older Echo product. The program is very straightforward. You select the speaker or Echo model you want to trade-in. You’re told how much credit you’ll get for it and are given a free shipping label. When Amazon receives your speaker/Echo, you’ll receive the credit and the next time you purchase an Echo device, 25% will automatically be deducted at checkout.
The main benefit of this trade-in program is the 25% Echo discount because the amount that Amazon offers in credit for the actual trade-in isn’t much. A 2nd-gen Echo Dot will earn you between $2-$5, depending on its condition, but you can then turn around and use the 25% discount on a new Amazon Echo Show and save $57. That makes the trade-in well worth it.
Amazon’s trade-in programs are very lenient with approvals. The item being traded-in doesn’t need to be working or even have its cables or power adapter. If, for whatever reason, Amazon doesn’t accept your traded-in device, they’ll ship it back to you for free, so there’s no risk in trying.
The whole trade-in process tends to take about 2 weeks from shipment to approval, so if you’re thinking of using the 25% discount during the upcoming Black Friday sales, be sure to get your trade-in sent as soon as possible. I personally was able to use my trade-in credit on a streaming device during Prime Day to stack my discount on top of the already reduced Prime Day price of a Fire TV Cube, but it’s unknown if the same will be possible with this 25% discount and any Black Friday sales on Echo devices that might occur.
Does the discount also work on refurbished Echo products?
Sorry, but I don’t know.
Interesting, the first generation Echo Dot, is not eligible for this deal.
I traded in a 1st gen Echo (full size) and got $50 for it! Plus I got the 25% discount on a new Echo Show. I got the $50 gift card and the 25% discount the moment I clicked SUBMIT on my trade in. I guess Amazon must like me. (I hope they don’t find that it was a mistake).
5$ for a working echo dot 2nd gen.
Seems like it should be at least a little more ..
any difference in discount with trade in 2 old devices
