Earlier this year, Amazon informed owners of its Cloud Cam security camera that the device would no longer be supported after December 2, 2022, leaving all Cloud Cams inoperable. To make up for the lost functionality, Amazon said it would be giving all Cloud Cam owners free Blink Mini cameras. Amazon has now sent out emails with instructions to redeem the free Blink Mini cameras, as well as a free 1-year subscription to its Blink Subscription Plus Plan.
When the discontinuation of the Cloud Cam was first announced, it was unclear if owners of multiple Cloud Cams would receive a free Blink Mini camera for each of their Cloud Cams or if each customer would only receive one free Blink camera. Thankfully, the former is correct and each active Cloud Cam in use qualifies for a separate free Blink Mini camera.
The emails sent out today by Amazon include a unique code for each active Cloud Cam owned. The codes can be used at checkout of a Blink Mini camera on Amazon.com to make the camera free. Those who qualify for multiple free Blink Mini cameras must make multiple individual purchases, since each order is limited to one checkout code.
As for the free 1-year Blink Subscription Plus Plan, Amazon says each account with an active Cloud Cam will automatically be able to purchase the plan for free without the need of a code. Just sign up for the plan with the same Amazon account used by the Cloud Cam and the 1-year subscription will show as free at checkout. Each subscription plan is good for an unlimited number of Blink Mini cameras.
Cloud Cam owners have until January 26, 2023 to redeem their free Blink Mini camera(s). Any Cloud Cam videos stored on Amazon’s servers can be downloaded until December 2, 2022, the same day all Cloud Cams stop working.
Rip off, Cloud cam was working fine. Why can’t they make it open source or something to keep them going.
Just want to get you into a paying situation,
recycle, yeah right.
Ya, now trying to strap you with $100/yr plan after first year runs out. Shady.
Code worked for me to get a blink cam but the free 1yr blink subscription was showing $100 all they way up to “Place Order” for me. I contacted Amazon and they had no idea what i was talking about or why i was having a problem. I also had received a note in the first email that i’d be available for a bonus 4th gen echo…no mention of that at all in today’s email. Hmm…
I’m seeing the same thing. The Blink Mini order with my code went through fine for free but the subscription is showing up as $100 for me as well. My email about all of this arrived within the hour, so maybe it just needs a bit more time for the free subscription to be applied to all accounts. As for the free Echo, that wasn’t in my original email or the new one today.
My original email mentioned getting an Echo 4th gen too but I didn’t receive a code for it either.
same here, 1 year subscription is not working, its trying to charge me $100. I called Amazon customer service and was able to talk to the cloud cam team directly, they are aware of the issue, the free subscription does not work. As of Nov 5, they are urgently working on the issue and within 48 hours a new email will be sent to Blink owners with a new link.
same for me as well. customer service had no idea what to do….
There is a thread on Reddit regarding promo codes for Blink Mini and free subscription. Some people are having success getting free cameras (myself included), but no one has gotten a free annual Blink subscription so far. Numerous people spent hours on the phone with both Amazon and Blink with no resolution as of yet. Hopefully it gets figured out before my free 30 days is up!
Spent two hours between Amazon agents and Blink agents. All I’ve gotten is Blink saying it’s an Amazon issue and Amazon is totally clueless.
Tried to order up free subscription just now and it showed $0, guess that is fixed anyway, at least for me. Still no word on the free echo 4th gen.
Yes!!! Just worked for me too! Tried it a few hours ago and it was still not working then. Must have just been fixed.
I just tried it and it works now! Sorry but it shouldn’t have been that hard.
I have Blink cameras and use the Sync module 2 instead of the cloud subscription. It works great, and it’s pretty cheap. When your one year free subscription runs out, I’d get the Sync module instead of renewing
I was able to use the codes for the free Blink Minis (2 of them to replace my 2 Cloud Cams), but like everyone else, I’m not getting the free one year subscription. It still shows $100 right up to purchase. I’ll wait a few more days and hope it gets corrected. I’d be interested in hearing more about Blink Add On Module 2 going forward (once free subscription runs out). I have a NAS on my home network with tons of storage. Would be great if I could use that to store camera video.
The codes do not work for me. I received 3 codes – 2 blink minis, and 1 for echo 4th gen. No issue with the echo code, but none of the blink mini codes worked.
Tried to call blink support, and was offered the option to leave a message.
Is it just me, or is the level of support for some of Amazon’s acquired companies the antithesis of customer focused.
I bought the sync module 2 with my cams works OK
I had 5 cloud cams and received codes for 5 blink minis. All worked without a hitch and I received all 5 this morning. I already have a blink subscription with some outdoor cams. When I try to get the free additional year, it’s showing up as $100? Hopefully this will be corrected.
I have two cloud cams and only got code fore one. Anything I can do?
I’m in the same situation. Did you get this resolved?
Looks like it did finally. Definitely try it again now. You’ll want to get everything running on Blink soon. Cloud Cam ends on 12/2.
5 Nov i received standart e-mail from Amazon with 1 code for my Cloud Cam
After that i activated 3 more Cloud Cam (refurbished, from Woot, purchased on July 2020 :) , but activated only now)
15 Nov i received one more e-mail with 3 additional codes w/o any other actions from my side.
“We noticed that you also have a recently active or refurbished Cloud Cam(s), so we would like to extend an additional complimentary Blink Mini camera(s) offer as well. Here are the new promo code(s) for you to redeem by January 26, 2023.”
Thank you, Amazon :)
I have 3 cloud cams and I got codes for 3 mini blink, 1 echo and 1 subscription. The code for cloud cams did not work, nor for the subscription. But the code for echo worked. Got a ticket logged with Amazon. But the blink customer rep send a std reply giving instructions how to add subscription to your account from the your order confirmation. The blink reps do not even bother to read the ticket and understand the problem. Just sending a std irrelevant reply to get the ticket closed.
Dont know how long it will take to resolve this
They must have a boatload of those laying around to give that many out free.
So i chatted amazon regarding the free echo gen4 for like the 3rd or 4th time and they finally just said go ahead and buy it and contact them once it’s delivered and they’ll issue a refund. So i went ahead and also realized for the first time that apparently amazon offers “overnight delivery” which had 2 windows all in the wee hours, like 12a-4a or 4a-8a maybe to my address (east bay area, ca)…the echo arrived a little before 6am this morning. I hopped on just now, contacted them and they advised they will issue the credit. BTW, before they told me to proceed with buying it they asked for a screenshot of the original email promising the free echo gen4 i got back in May. Fyi if anybody else is still in this predicament.
I tried to get the free 1 year subscription and they want $100!
I never received any email with codes for a replacement. I moved and didn’t have a chance to set up the Amazon cloud cam until recently, this is a total scam.
