The Fire TV Stick 4K is the most powerful streaming device Amazon currently sells. Even if you don’t have a 4K TV, it is highly recommended to pay the extra $10 to get this model instead of the regular Fire TV Stick, which is currently on sale for $29.99. That’s because the extra power will keep the device running smoother for the long haul and it has better WiFi connectivity, among many other improvements. It comes with the new Alexa voice remote with power and volume buttons built-in, as do all current Fire TV models. Also on sale is the Fire TV Cube for $79.99 and the Fire TV Recast for $189.99.

See, my thing is the new remote I don’t want, would never use the power or volume buttons. Maybe if I had it connected to a TV only, by all of my TVs have a sound system connected. Unless this remote is universal, I will stick with [and luv] the original remotes.
The remote is universal. You can configure it so the volume and mute buttons control your sound system. You can also set it to turn both your TV and sound system on, simultaneously, when you press the power button on the remote.
Controlling volume is one thing. And that one thing is fairly simply implemented on this remote. However, the fine print here is that in order for the remote to power on the TV and sound system simultaneously, both of those devices must have HDMI CEC enabled. Unfortunately, there is no industry standard for HDMI CEC. As such, manufacturers have implemented this feature in various different ways across all of their product lines. Oftentimes, with HDMI CEC enabled on your devices, you will find that those devices just simply don’t behave as you would expect them to. Your TV and receiver might turn on, but your receiver will change inputs. Or, your TV will turn off, but the receiver will remain on. Bottom line, HDMI CEC is a poorly implemented function and causes more frustration than the convenience of a so-called universal remote. If you are really wanting the features of a universal remote, you would be better off purchasing a Harmony instead of relying on poorly executed technology in a cheap remote provided by Amazon. Do one thing, do it well.
I think that is shortsighted. What’s the problem of having it if at some point you need it. And it can control many other devices. That said I can understand if you have to pay more money to get it no reason to at this time.
Staples has the same price and a coupon (51719) that takes $25 off $75. That makes the total price for two $54.98 or $27.49 each. I just bought that pair plus a $229.99 Recast (I hate you guys!) for a two television set up at $285 or $142.50/set.
